Hidden Biodiversity: Tardigrades!
Saturday, February 18, 2023, 9:30am-2:00pm
Saturday, hele mai Bishop Museum's Pacific Center for Molecular Biodiversity (PCMB) and join the scientists as they share ongoing research in biodiversity discovery and conservation.
It has been 250 years since Johann August Ephraim Goeze first described the Kleiner Wasserbär (little water bear), scientifically called tardigrades (slow walker).
Come join Bishop Museum researchers and explore the hidden biodiversity that is all around us, from tardigrades to rotifers and a whole host of animals more abundant than all the mammals and birds on the planet.
The workshop will feature hands-on activities for discovering water bears, rotifers, nematodes, and all sorts of hidden diversity. Once you see them, you will never look at the world the same way again. At the conclusion, participants will have the opportunity to visit the Pacific Center for Molecular Biodiversity and see some of the tools we use to study this unseen world.
Participants must register here. Capacity for the workshop is limited. An admission fee of $15.00 will go directly to support the Museum and the ongoing work in biodiversity research. Museum members receive a $5.00 discount. The registration fee includes admission for the day.
