I recently took part in the Acura Bike Tour in Los Angeles on March 4 on the morning of the LA Marathon. It's about 24 miles in and around LA, in the wee hours before the marathon starts (we took off at 5:50 AM so I was up at 4:15 AM to get from the hotel in time).

It was lots of fun (as it was last year) with over 15,000 riders. The streets are all blocked so there is no need to worry about street lights, stop signs, and early morning crazy drivers.

That afternoon my daughter and I went to see the end of the marathon in downtown (her boyfriend was running).

I took along my camera and had a chance to take a few photos of the area where we were, along with the post-finish line area.

Jeff, that bike tour sounds like a lot of fun.  Have you ever rode RAGBRAI, the bike ride across the entire state of Iowa.  It's always a lot of fun.  Great pictures of the buildings too!

Thanks, Christopher - No, I have not done  that one, I did two rides that were multi-day back in Boston a few years ago. One was from Boston to NY  (325 miles over 2 1/2 days), and the other NY to Boston (350 mile over 3 1/2 days). It was a fundraiser for AIDS. Very cool ride - greatest thing I have ever done.

Jeff, I will take your word on that being fun.....but if I rode a bike for 24 miles I would not be able to sit down again for a month.

LOL, George. It does take some getting used to. You have to build up to it - I take spin classes regularly and ride my bike outdoors as well. but I do recall the first long ride I took when I started biking. I had more sore muscles that I knew I had. :)

Jeff, we have a great event here in St. Louis called the Moonlight Ramble in August every year. it starts out at city hall and travels some 15 miles through the city streets. There is normally 15,000 or so that ride. The course normally winds pass some local watering holes. You should see the bikes lined up outside of them. It's a great event and supports youth hostels

Cool, Keith. Is that something you do? If not, I would consider it. It can be lots of fun. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Jeff, glad to hear you are enjoying the rides. :)

I used to do 15 miles a day minimum, every day when I was into cycling. Occasioanlly I'd push that out to as much as 80 miles in a day. Those were the days. ;)

Anyway, I now get my fix via motorcycles - with my limited time I don't cycle much anymore.

Fun pics BTW. :)

Cheers, -B
