fireworks

Celebrating the 4th of July- It's here already and we have opted to stay home. A 3 day staycation. We are firing up the grill, playing and working around the house, and enjoying some leisurely downtown time.

We are heading to downtown Annapolis for a leisurely walk and taking Maggie, our golden, with us. Annapolis is a fun walking town. Narrow streets full of color with baskets of blossoms hanging from light posts, street side cafes, and of course the waterfront. You can't be in Annapolis and not stop and watch the boats as they head up Ego Alley ever so slowly, then turn around and head back out. The Naval Academy is bustling with the influx of new plebes and their families right now so downtown will be busy. A ice cream cone from the local ice cream shop is definitely in order as we settle down for a bit of people watching on a warm summer day.

Annapolis puts on a spectacular fireworks display. It is set over the water on a barge right outside the Naval Academy and people line up by land and sea to see the show. We have done both and either way is spectacular. This year  we will enjoy the show from afar as we watch from our lawn into the horizon of the night sky. It is the perfect lazy 4th way of doing our staycation this year.

You know, every once in awhile it is nice to just visit your hometown in a more leisurely way. This holiday weekend is our chance to do just that.
