Last night as I listened to the fireworks go off, I sat here and thought about something. I had started thinking about this same thing earlier in the day at my networking group on an entirely different subject, but the same nonsense! WE NEED TO CHANGE OUR LAWS.
I know not all states are the same, BUT, in Florida, if you buy fireworks for agricultural use, that is fine. My question WHAT AGRICULTURAL USE COULD ANYONE POSSIBLY HAVE FOR FIREWORKS? Several years ago, I was riding with a police officer around the 4th of July, and he would get one of the dozens of firework complaint calls, (meanwhile we were both sitting off to the side of the road watching the awesome display) drive up to the scene (firework leftovers GALORE) and ask if they knew who was lighting off fireworks because they had a complaint about them. Of course, the answer was 'no we don't know.' Such a joke! Don't get me wrong, I realize it was 'against the law' but should they go around arresting everyone? Plus, he honestly didn't SEE the exact person lighting it (of course he didn't make a strong effort to either) but if he did, they would arrest half the city. That is not realistic. But it is also not realistic to have a law on the books which if it was strongly enforced and they made a strong effort to sneek up and catch the culprit, so many would go to jail, they would not have half the necessary room!
Different subject but same stupidity, my networking group had the pest control guy get up and speak about the ability to legally sell & purchase a pesticide product, possess it, but illegal to dispurse it on your yard - without a license. He even said, how many people have the required license? Probably very few - mainly pest control people like himself, but very few others. Yet they buy it and DON'T put it on their lawns? Give me a break, you KNOW they do.
Undoubtedly, many other states have their own crazy laws that are unrealistic, unenforceable, or god knows what. But why do we leave these on the books? How many people have NEVER been a party to the lighting of fireworks. Very, very few of us! I know fireworks are dangerous, so I think there should be some restrictions. I'm not sure where to draw the line, or balance the need for safety VS reality, but the law needs to be changed none-the-less!! And on the pesticide, if you need a license to put it on your lawn, WHY not need the license to PURCHASE the product? If it needs to be properly handled and used, and licensing is so crucial, then make it a realistic law to be properly enforced and regulated. These are just two laws in Florida, and I know there are many other crazy ones here in Florida, and probably thousands more in the rest of the US. If it needs to be changed, change it! It it needs to be removed, remove it! Clean house, not with just the people, but the idiotic laws on the books as well!
