FireworksLast night as I listened to the fireworks go off, I sat here and thought about something.  I had started thinking about this same thing earlier in the day at my networking group on an entirely different subject, but the same nonsense!  WE NEED TO CHANGE OUR LAWS.

Crime SceneI know not all states are the same, BUT, in Florida, if you buy fireworks for agricultural use, that is fine.  My question WHAT AGRICULTURAL USE COULD ANYONE POSSIBLY HAVE FOR FIREWORKS?  Several years ago, I was riding with a police officer around the 4th of July, and he would get one of the dozens of firework complaint calls, (meanwhile we were both sitting off to the side of the road watching the awesome display) drive up to the scene (firework leftovers GALORE) and ask if they knew who was lighting off fireworks because they had a complaint about them.  Of course, the answer was 'no we don't know.'  Such a joke!  Don't get me wrong, I realize it was 'against the law' but should they go around arresting everyone?  Plus, he honestly didn't SEE the exact person lighting it (of course he didn't make a strong effort to either) but if he did, they would arrest half the city.  That is not realistic.  But it is also not realistic to have a law on the books which if it was strongly enforced and they made a strong effort to sneek up and catch the culprit, so many would go to jail, they would not have half the necessary room!

Different subject but same stupidity, my networking group had the pest control guy get up and speak about the ability to legally sell & purchase a pesticide product, possess it, but illegal to dispurse it on your yard - without a license.  He even said, how many people have the required license?  Probably very few - mainly pest control people like himself, but very few others. Yet they buy it and DON'T put it on their lawns?  Give me a break, you KNOW they do.

Undoubtedly, many other states have their own crazy laws that are unrealistic, unenforceable, or god knows what.  But why do we leave these on the books?  How many people have NEVER been a party to the lighting of fireworks.  Very, very few of us!  I know fireworks are dangerous, so I think there should be some restrictions.  I'm not sure where to draw the line, or balance the need for safety VS reality, but the law needs to be changed none-the-less!!  And on the pesticide, if you need a license to put it on your lawn, WHY not need the license to PURCHASE the product?  If it needs to be properly handled and used, and licensing is so crucial, then make it a realistic law to be properly enforced and regulated.  These are just two laws in Florida, and I know there are many other crazy ones here in Florida, and probably thousands more in the rest of the US.  If it needs to be changed, change it!  It it needs to be removed, remove it!  Clean house, not with just the people, but the idiotic laws on the books as well!

In my opinion there are several laws that need to be changes or added. Our government has went to whats popular not whats sensible on the books.

There are many stupid laws.  If you google stupid or out dated laws you will probably come up with some wild ones.

Just another thing that doesn't make any sense to me.  Best not to think about it.  I have never heard of anyone getting arrested for lighting off fireworks...

Ronald, I heard something on the radio about our constitution the other day and although I can not qoute the exact line, it referred to the will of the poeple and our right to change or simply abolish something that we do not agree with. Pretty cool that the real power in our country is  given to the people.  The first Tuesday in November will be the grandest manifestation of the principle. America is a pretty cool thought.

Happy 4th

Ronald, I agree with you.  People can not use (legally) fireworks, but I am always amazed that it is sold on many corners.  Why allow it to be sold?  MONEY!  Many laws need to be changed.

Laura, very true, hard to enforce an unrealistic law!  Russ, I have NO doubt you are so right on there.  But WHY do we keep them on the books?  Not realistic at all!  Robert, I haven't either, so why keep it on the books, it is not enforced or realistic, so it needs to be removed!  Bo, absolutely in every way!  Karen, your right, $$$ is almost always the reason!  Everyone, have a safe and enjoyable July 4th!

Ron, I will agree with you on changing some of the laws that don't fit and or are out dated. But then how are you going to feed the crook Attorneys? I have studied Law for almost 5 years and Law enforcement for 2 and it's all about the system, it's one big money pit.

There are many people in California that are doing prison time in jails for smoking a Marijuana joint. And then you have these thugs in Las Vegas robbing homes, people, etc. And they don't do anything with the criminals because there juveniles and or the jails are full, "give me a break "

I can tell you story after story on what laws really do and don't do, but it would take me forever!

I think that there should be some restrictions on fireworks because they are dangerous and some of these fireworks are like a tenth of a stick of Dynamite.

Another question would be, who invented fireworks? Chinese! And who is really getting rich off the sales of fireworks? Chinese and the American government. I rest my case!

Ron, I am going to be calling you more often and maybe visit you in Florida. And or maybe you could visit me in Las Vegas when it cools down.  Me and you think alike.

Once again being a member with the Rain, one can see how small a world we live in.

PS I am jealous of your posts, there great!

Robert, I agree, the punishment should fit the crime, and many times it does not! As I said, I don't think they should eliminate fireworks laws, but they CERTAINLY need to be written realistically, with realistic teeth.  If it is unenforceable, or realistically unenforceable, then it is not right, make it right is what I am saying - and it appears you are as well!!  Yes it is a small world, and again, thanks for the compliment!  Have a great holiday!
