Early Fire Season

When the winds kick up, there is a fire danger warning put out, and yesterday was the day!   Winds up next to the foothills were up to 90 miles per hour, and they caused an electrical line to go down, starting a fire.

The fire started in Morrison and burned around 40 acres, yet luckily no structures were burned.   By 9 pm last night, the fire was not contained, but the wind gusts were down to 60 miles per hour.   There was a concert at Red Rocks planned, but was canceled due to the fire danger.

There was another fire in Aurora around Cherry Creek State Park, but was small, and contained quickly.

We have had a few "dustings" of snow, but not much in the month of March, which we desperately need.    This coming week we have snow or rain in the forecast, which hopefully will help the dry tundra.

Another great post by Joan. I am totally worried here.  Driving in the Valley yesterday, almost every vacant lot had 3-foot weeds growing from all our winter rain.  Will be on fire in June.

Bill, this time of year is scary, especially with these wild winds.   I sure hope AZ doesn't catch fire in the near future, and someone takes care of the weeds.   Thank you for the reblog!

Good morning Joan. Just got back from a cruise where we booked a tour of Tortola. Another passenger lit a cigarette and tossed it still lit. The tour guide was furious since they have been extremely dry and fires were a concern. Enjoy your day.
