 | This is one of two courses at Carolina Trace, both of which were designed by Robert Trent Jones, Senior. This course winds up and down the sandhills of the area, meandering along lakes, creeks, and ponds along the way. From the clubhouse at Carolina Trace, follow the parking lot on the left past the tennis courts and you will see two signs: One on the left for the Lake course and one on the right for the Creek course. You follow the path from the entrance sign to the first hole on the course: |
| The first hole is a par 4, with 294 to 415 yards to the pin depending on which of the four tee locations are used. For all of the holes at Carolina Trace, four tee shots are provided to allow for changing difficulty depending on the golfer. | |
 | This shot from the first tee was taken on a mild late winter day in Central North Carolina. The hole is out of sight behind the trees along the left. This hole rises slightly from the tee, but is fairly flat compared to most of the Creek Course. |
This shot of the first hole shows it is defended by sand traps to the left and right. The hole is located on top of a slight hill behind the sand traps. A little to the left or right and you are digging out of the sand. Hit it too far and you are in the woods. Onto the cemetery: | |
 | Between the first and second hole off to the left is an old cemetery. The land that now makes up Carolina Trace was a combination of bottom lands and farms before it was developed. There are several small cemeteries dotted throughout Trace. It can be interesting to visit the grave markers to read the names and dates. Onto hole #2: Hole 2 |
