A Day in Paradise

My schedule has been so busy the last couple of years, that I never seem to enjoy quality time in Hawaii.

The other day I made a commitment to change that. I bought a couple of sets of snorkels, masks and fins.

Today my oldest son Daniel and I hit the North Shore of Oahu. After about 15 minutes or so in the water, 3 large sea turtles decided to join us. They and a school of various tropical fish seemed to want to hang out with us. My son Daniel who is born and raised here never had an experience like that.

I used to skin dive regularly when I was younger. In those days you never saw a sea turtle. Since making them a protected species, they are easily seen almost everywhere in the islands.

After a nice visit to the beach, we took a nice drive through historic Haleiwa. Now that is what I call a day in paradise.

I made a commitment that from now on I will keep snorkeling equipment in the car and when the opportunity arises, we will take an hour and hit the water.

Glad to see you took a day with family and had a good time. We all work so hard it is easy to let these sorts of days get lost in the shuffle of work.

Randy, that does sound like a day in Paradise! The North Shore of Oahu is gorgeous!

Randy- It is too easy to allow work to take over and the paying of bills etc. When I lived in Hawaii I was more interested in me and disco dancing at the night clubs than nature and the history. I also did not want to be thought of as a 'tourist' so I stayed away from things I would have enjoyed. But I was only 16 to 21 living there. My how things change. I am going back to soak it all in! No matter where you live, you tend not to appreciate all that place has to offer. Thanks for the reminder. We took the day and went to the beach today too!

Bob & Carolin - I have been real bad about not taking time off. I aim to change that.

Tom & Darcy - It doesn't get much better than that.

Nester & Katerina - It is too easy to take things like the beach for granted when you can go anytime.

Sally - The picture was from a beach down the road. The turtles do not usually come on the beach where we were swimming.

Take some time and enjoy. We have a hectic schedule most of the time. But we time block for the important things as well. You only live once!

Randy, my idea of taking a break is slowing down as I drive over the bridge over Rock Creek! I like your Love the turtle shots, too!

Randy, always make time for enjoying life. It is not all about work. We used to get the baby sea turtles crawling out of the sand in May to June on the East coast of Florida. The mother turtles would lay the eggs at night.

Randy, good to hear you took time off to spend with your son. Have a great weekend.

Randy - now I can relate to all the honu jewelry I saw in Hawaii. So glad you were able to share the experience with Daniel.

Laura - I have to remind myself that regularly.

Patricia - I think they are so special. When I was younger there were none left, no they are making a come back.

Gary - That would be fun to watch.

Frank - Back to work today. We can only play so many days.

Sharon - I really enjoyed it. I need to get my younger son's swimming skills up before he can join us.

Randy- It is so true that we take for granted what we have near us every day. I love your idea of keeping the snorkling gear in the car. This all sounds like paradise to me :)

Kathy - I hope that means I will actually use it more often.

Randy I am glad that you got to spend some good quality time with your son. Enjoy these years with your kids because they fly by wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to quickly.

Randy.... I am semi jealous... I had bought some snorkling gear when I went down to the Keys around 6 years ago. That was my first time.... I was pretty close to some dolphin... to see sea turtles that close, that must have been pretty cool. Overall, I agree with George... don't lose site of that quality time. happy 4th,...

Jerry - I have made a pledge to get in the ocean as least once a week from now on. Hopefully more often.

Randy...sounds like fun. It's good to get some quality time with the family also!!

Hi Randy! What a great thing to do. I have been trying to do something like that all my life. My big mouth keeps getting me into more and more and more work. Sam complains that I am a workaholic. Guess she is probably correct. Jerry

William - I am trying to set more family time aside.

Jerry - I have the same problem. I work way too many hours. I am trying to build better systems and get help to allow me more family time.

Randy - You have it! That is the only solution. I hired a Property Manager Assistant three weeks ago. She is fantastic. Quick learner! I hope she gets her "systems" in place this week so she will start making a major contribution to my work backlog. Have a great day. Jerry

Randy - I know how it is.... I just did the same thing... took some time off to enjoy the wonderful place we call home

Georgina - I picked up a water proof container for my electronic car key. I am ready to hit the water on a moments notice. I know have to find friends who will also go on a moments notice.

OH to snorkel at whim,! I may be just a little jealous. How about if you come visit Asheville and find us a place to snorkel?...Hmmmm.....I can show you a place to run the rapids, but I sure wouldn't want to glide along underwater there...ouch...

I carry hiking sticks in my trunk. I guess that works just fine for a little impromptu stroll. =)

Thanks for the good news about the turtles. I'm glad they're making a comeback. I would love to see the North Shore again. It's been 26 years. Beautiful area, with monster waves both times I've been there.
