I have lived in Braemar since December 2004. In that time, I have heard two reports of neighbors seeing Copperhead snakes....and that was in 2005.
Since then, things have been rather quiet with regards to snakes in our neighborhood news. However, in the last issue of the community newsletter The Bagpiper, there is a notice posted that Copperheads are being spotted on and around the various walking trails that wind themselves through the community.
Living in a nicely wooded community like Braemar, this is going to happen. The best thing you can do if you spot a Copperhead snake is to not disturb it. Don't try to catch it or kill it. Let it be.
Remember, even though this is a poisonous snake, it is likely just as afraid of you.
Keep your distance and tell your children to do the same.
