Off Makapuu Beach Oahu Hawaii

It usually takes about four hours to circle the island by car. Sightseeing and stopping along the way at the many sights around Oahu may take a wee bit longer. :)

There is so much of our rich history and culture to take in that it has taken even me.....a lifetime to grasp.

And I share it with you.......

Kaohikaipu (Ka O HE KA ee Poo) Island (Turtle Island) is right in front of Manana Island (Rabbit Island) off the East Coast of Oahu by Makapu'u Beach. Between the two islands is a coral reef and though divers sometimes explore around these islands you definitely need a boat to get out there to do so.

As I previously discussed in A Paradise Sunrise at Makapu'u Beach Hawaii Rabbit Island has the shape of a Rabbit with ears layed back and named so from the time when a rancher dropped off rabbits there. To this day the rabbits coexist with edge-tailed sheerwater birds. So closely to they co-exist that they sometimes share the same burrows!

Sea Life Park is right across from Makapu'u Beach Park and is the ONLY marine life park in Hawaii. With a 300 gallon tank filled with Hawaiian green sea turtles (Honu) and an array of colorful reef fish and other types of marine life this is surely the spotlight of the park. The highlight for me is the Hawaiian Monk Seals ...I think they are the cutest things! READ MORE ABOUT OUR ENDANGERED MONK SEALS HERE:  Endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals: What about "All Those Years Ago"?

Sally- You bring back memories. I went to Sea Life Park quite a few times and used to love driving around the whole island. Back then it took 3 to 4 hours too. Beautiful photo, again.:)

Sally, Sea Life Park sounds like a great place to visit with the green sea turtles. You have so much nature to explore on the island. I've driven all around Oahu and like you said, stopped many places along the way.

Sis - While I'm not a fan of driving, or riding in a car for that matter, those are four hours I'd  be happy spend in a vehicle meandering around the beauty this is Hawaii.  I can't wait to visit the beauty and touch it with my own senses one day.

Hi Sally,

Thank you for yet another informative post describing paradise. Would you have time to be our tour guide when we next visit your Island?

Remember, we are Realtors, so the guide rate/hr would have to be reasonable, but would include dinner at your favorite eatery.

Sally if it is me in a car circling the Island it would probably take the four hours that you stated, but if my wife is in the car with me it would probably take four days, because she would make me stop at every shop .......... LOL
