I'm told that "Poughkeepsie", pronounced "pukpsiyqth" means: "the reed covered lodge by the little water-place", or more colloquially "rotting teepee by the mountain-seep". Regardless, it simply doesn't hold a candle to a town beloved by hundreds just a few miles south called "Squamskootnocket." This little gem, beloved by throngs of New Yorkers jonesing for a "little piece of heaven", means "hideous death of a thousand innocents", or again, more colloquially, "landmark for urban decay." And have we got real estate coming out of our ears for you! Call me anytime for a personal tour of the 'Nocket Country Store, a barn converted to a store converted back to a barn by pure lack of interest and the passage of time!
