First of all I hope you had a wonderful and safe 4th of July, and now it's time to get back to work. Half the year is gone--forget the talking heads, was your first 6 months what you were hoping for?

For me this time of year is always a checkpoint. I can't control what happened January 1 through June 30, but I can control WHAT I NEED TO DO for these next 6 months. Here are some things you may want to consider.....

What did I do RIGHT?

Where did I go off course? or What did I do wrong?

What can I do to improve?

What adjustments do I need to make?

How can I make better use of my time?

Was my business profitable? This is critical and yet many realtors don't know if they made money and if they did, how much, by the same token many don't know if they lost money and if so, how much. And just because you had a lot  of closings doesn't mean you necessarily made money! Remember, this IS a business. It is your business and you can run it they way you want but how many successful businesses of any type don't know if they were profitable?

Do I need to change my advertising focus and/or budget?

Do I need to change how I market myself?

Hopefully these questions will get you to thinking. I know there are others, these just came to mind quickly. What are your thoughts? Remember, less than 6 months till Christmas!

Thanks for the post Steve.

It is a great to to evaluate what is/isn't working & push forward to the year end.

Best of Luck.

Yeah, I have looked back at this year and know I need to change some things.  But sometimes I don't know where my efforts and money will get me the best results.  Try and try again, I guess.

Thanks for the reminder about Christmas!  Wow how time flys.  Your thoughts about six months midway definately got me thinking.

Steve.. thanks for your comment. It is tough to know if if we're making the best use of our time and money. For me though, I think there are times when I need to stay the course and be consistent with what I'm currently doing which is not always easy(for me, anyway). We live in a society that wants results immediately and it doesn't always happen that way.

Thanks Steve.

With today's market I find it very important to not only look at what you have done but to also look to see what you need to do

Good post

Most of the people I know are saying ' Phew, can't believe I made it through the last six months'.  I am thinking 'only six more months til the new year and hopefully a much better spring market than this year'.

Hi Steve,

Good post, it seemed like yesterday I joined AR.  Time to assess what strategies worked as far as marketing goes and work from there.

Gotta keep doing the basics. It's not a great market, but it could get worse!......or better, depending on attitude.

Steve, I think it is a great idea to give ourselves a 6 month "check up".  Great list you posted and it made me realize I too, needed my check up!

Guess we should look at our business plan and goals and make sure we are on track for a good year.

I know one of the best things I did in the first half of this year is join AR. I can't believe how much information is on here and I have barely scratched the surface.

Ellie mentioned attitude. It is so easy to let everything we read and hear mess with our attitude. I remember Zig Ziglar calling it "stinkin thinkin." I think for most of us we need a"checkup from the neckup" on a continual basis.

Thanks for all your great comments.
