Wellington Florida Residents Tax Update: Let Your Voice Be Heard- Don't Raise Our Taxes!

The Realtors came out in full force to the Palm Beach County Session where the county was going to raise taxes in our county. Click here to read the amazing outcome of the county of Palm Beach voting with the people to not raise the taxes in our county.

One of the best reasons to live or relocate to Florida is that we do NOT have a state income tax and we do NOT tax food. What is also amazing is that in Florida there is health care for every child under 19 with fees as low as free or $15 per month for the premium.

Well, today is another day, another fight to keep our taxes low. The village counsel of Wellington Florida is set for a meeting tonight regarding raising our taxes here in Wellington.

The meeting is at 7:00 p.m. in the Wellington Community Center,
12165 West Forest Hill Blvd., Wellington.

Here are the counsel members you will want to address:

  • Mayor Darell Bowen
  • Councilman Matt Willhite
  • Vice Mayor Lizbeth Benacquisto
  • Councilman Robert Margolis
  • Vice Mayor Carmine Priore

Now Mayor Darell Bowen is our new Mayor who promised while running for office to keep our taxes low. Let's see how he handles this issue tonight.

On January 29th of this year the people of Florida voted to have our property taxes lowered. We are asking the village counsel to honor our voice and decision to lower our property taxes not to figure out more ways to raise out taxes which would defeat the whole purpose of the property tax reduction we voted in.

We asked Palm Beach county to not raise our taxes. We have too much of a burden with property taxes as it is. We are now asking Wellington not to raise our taxes.

Wellington Florida is a bedroom community and makes its' money primarily from property taxes and the equestrian season. During the boom the Village was swimming in the money. Well, not it is time to tighten the purse strings. Learn to be frugal and new ways to make money. Wellington needs to look at ways of expanding its' income generating. It needs to encourage businesses to open and to add some business centers in and around Wellington that will add to this tax base. When you get all your money from property taxes, it really burdens just the homeowner.

Wellington is actually looking an expanding the medical center corners where Wellington Regional Hospital is. There are a lot of vacant parcels where new medical offices could be built.

The other project that Wellington is working on is to allow either Palm Beach Community College or the Wellington Hospital to build a college campus on State Rd 7 (441). If Wellington allows this use I would suggest that they allow the Hospital to build a medical training center there. This will bring income into the village for years to come. I am not that excited about the PBCC campus as it is not for profit and I don't see how that is going to add revenue. But a private hospital running a medical school would be advantageous for the tax base.

There are all kinds of creative ways that the Village of Wellington can make money instead of raising our taxes.

Katerina, good information for local residents who follow your blog!  It's important to show up and speak up, especially when politicians want to stick their hands in your pocket for more money - they all seem to think it's a bottomless pit.

Good for you for fighting this.  No matter how much money you give the government, it will spend it.  Government is not interested in reducing expenses, but it will always take all the money it can get.

It's frustrating!

Katerina,

The government (City, State and Federal) will always take the easy way out and that is to go to the goose that lays the golden egg, its' citizens.  It would be amazing if they would sit down and do some out of the box thinking and come up with other ways of increasing its much needed funding.

Government does have a difficult time reducing they have to realize we are not earning as much and they have to find ways as we do to cut costs.

Katerina, I went through these ordeals when I lived in Florida and Georgia. The taxes there will kill you. People need to stand up and be heard.
