Fun and Free Activities in Costa Mesa for July (Updated)

There are so many great things to do in Costa Mesa in the summertime.

FREE SUMMER CONCERTS

One thing that my family and I enjoy are the free summer concerts at Fairview Park almost every Tuesday in July and August.

The concerts are from 6:15 pm to 7:45 pm.

July 8, 2008 - The Answer (classic rock)

July 15 - Incendio (classic guitar band)

July 22 - The Skinny Little Twits (oldies rock)

July 29 - Steel Parade (steel drum/Caribbean)

August 5 - Swing Cats Band (10-piece big band)

August 12 - The HoDads (surf band)

Be sure to bring blankets and a picnic for dinner.  It is a great time to spend some time outdoors in our beautiful, beachy weather with your family and friends.

You will also find free face painting and free crafts for the kids provided by the City of Costa Mesa.  And, if you prefer not to bring your own food, there is very reasonably priced food available such as pizza and hot dogs.

FREE SUMMER MOVIES

If you're looking for another outdoor idea, check out the free summer movies at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

July 14 - Easter Parade

July 21 - Grease

July 28 - The Muppet Movie

August 4 - Hairspray

Bring beach chairs or blankets.  Movies begin at dusk. Patina Catering offers box means and beverages.

Community Plaza at the Orange County Performing Arts Center

Segerstrom Center for the Arts

CATTLE DRIVE ON THE STREETS OF COSTA MESA

The Orange County Fair is sponsoring another cattle drive through the streets of Costa Mesa.

On Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 10:00 am, the cattle drive will start at Fairview Park, continue up Placentia to Victoria to Harbor and finally up Fair Drive to the Orange County Fairgrounds.

Never seen a cattle drive, can't imagine what Costa Mesa looked like when this was a common occurrence?  Be sure to mark your calendars to experience this special and incredible sight.

We got to see it last year, and it was really something special.  So different from anything I had experienced before in my NewportMesa upbringing.

If the cattle drive isn't enough excitement for you, you can also watch professional and amateur cowboys prepare for this event from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Friday, July 26, 2008.

Christine: This is a great list of FREE things to do in your area. With the cost of gas in general, people are looking for less expenisve ways to spend time with their families.  Super post!

Kat - Thanks. Given all the talk in the news about people staying closer to home, I thought this might be good information.

Elena - One of the benefits of Southern California, it rarely gets too hot, especially near the beach : )
