This morning when I was watching Good Morning America, an interview with T. Boone Pickens was being played.  This respected oil man (if there is such a thing) was talking about how if something is not done, mainly us changing our ways and converting from the need of using oil to using natural gas and wind.  (OK, I'm serious, this is not a joke. I just spent a little time with college boys at my assistance's house and well need I say more....) Anyway back on topic.  If we don't start changing our ways we will be looking at $6-7 gas next summer and just keep going up according to Pickens and our only hope is to lobby our government to look into alternatives. As a realtor as I have blogged about before, we just have to keep driving, so I guess we will have to get political, but between now and then here are some tips I found.

Start stocking up on non-perishable at the grocery store etc.  Watch for sales and buy extras instead of just when you need them.

Eat out on only special occasion (geez that will be hard for a person who never gets home before 6 or 7)

Don't buy bottled water, tap water is cheaper and apparently there have actually been studies that show that bottle water is no better then tap in some cases.  My kids are going to hate this one.

Raise your thermostat (we talked about this one before)

Skip the latte, make it at home (This one is not happening around here, but its the thought that counts right?)

I am sure that there are other people who can add a whole lot more of tips to save money to buy gas!! Bring them on.

the bottled water is such a kicker for me...i'm pretty frugal but it's hard to stop buying the bottle water & start drinking tap...talk about good marketing and brainwashing by these companies.

Seriously Kim, shouldn't it be better if someone went to the trouble to bottle it!!

Amy - I just put solar screen on our home. It definitely will help with the electric bill.

Lay off the breaks and you will save some gas. I'm amazed when in traffic at how many people take off quick and then stop suddenly, especially in traffic. If you just pay attention to what you are doing you can actually save gas by using your brakes as little as possible.

Or if you commute down 281 - just park your car on the shoulder and jog to work. You'll save gas and probably get their just as quick. :p

The parking tickest may be an issue though. Hrmmm....

How about walking more?  I am always amazed how many people insist on getting in their cars to drive around the corner.  I underastand sometimes and some places this is not possible, but especially city dwellers can save gas this way and get some well needed exercise as a bonus!

Wouldn't it be awesome if we had some kind of train that ran between all points outside of San Antonio (i.e. Boerne, New Braunfels) into San Antonio.  The only problem as  a realtor is that we could not show houses that way, but I love the idea of being able to use it for other errands into SA.  My assistant says that they walked everywhere when she was a kid because her mom couldn't drive, but they also live in a very small town where you could walk to anyplace in a 10 block radius. Keep the ideas coming.  They are all great, except for maybe the one of parking on 281 and walking.  j/k Dave & Rick, that actually made me laugh.

Amy - Boerne use to be that way; you just walked most places you wanted to go. Ceil's sister and family lived in town and had many stores that provided what they needed. She would go into S.A. once a month to do big grocery shopping. That was many moons ago.

Everybody knew each other and always knew if a new person moved to town.
