How's that for an equation?  My Ah Hah plus Duh moment came the other day while I was working.  I have become quite obsessed with stats lately.  O.K., back that up, I've always been crazy about the numbers.  I am a salesperson at heart.

I was reviewing the analytics of my blog.  You know, those nitty gritty things, like where people come from, what they viewed, and what links they click on when they come to my blog.  And then it hit me, less like a jolt of lightning and more like a hmm...aha...duh.

It was a moment when I realized I could be doing something a little differently to get better results.

I won't bore you with the details.  It had to do with tweaking my tags and keywords more effectively.  I won't write a book on it, it won't be featured in a post, and I won't win my golden ticket to the Oprah show.  But the improved process is already helping improve my search engine results.

I call it my aha plus duh moment because the answer had been staring me in the face the whole time.  I'd read many posts and pages from books discussing keyword analysis and improvement as well as effective tagging methods.  I'd commented on posts about the subject.

But up until now, I hadn't taken the time to put the simple basic principles into practice, even though by implementing them I am already seeing results.

It doesn't always take an epiphany to turn the results of your business around.  The turnaround can come from farming your market, concentrating on a niche, working on your SOI, hiring a business/life coach, or "getting adopted" by a mentor.  These are not new concepts, but today or tomorrow, they might just hit you over the head.

AH-HA PLUS DUH EQUALS JUST DO IT.

Rebecca, so what did you change to improve your results?  Was it just keywords or was it more targeted posts?  I watch my stats for new ways that people get to my site for inspiration for post topics that I may not have touched on before.

Rebecca- This is like the cruel joke kids played in school...you give half the equation, and now I want the rest LOL :)  So, what did you do to improve?  We want the whole enchillada please :)

Rebecca, I have no idea what the formula is, but for some reason I'm finding my blogs all over the net. I don't particularly tag a certain way nor keep any rule of thumb in mind (maybe because I don't know any). Nevertheless, I'm getting some Google love just not sure why. So what exactly was the DUH of your equation?

Hi Rebecca, Like the others, waiting to hear the details. . .   ;)

Rebecca, you just touched on something that is so near and dear to me. Analytics. I love numbers. I am so glad that there are others like me.

Lisa, Kathy, Michael, Audrey- Tagging with words that are of course relevant to the post, but then adding tags that could be relevant to your post that people are also searching for.  You can do this by searching keywords in Technoratti and then seeing what other tags come up- Technoratti shows you these other tags, and then adding those tags to your post.

You can also use the search function on A/R to see what comes up for keywords/tags you are targeting and if your not, you can look at the posts that are coming up.

Keywords- you know what keywords are popular through the use of a tool like wordtracker.  You also know what keywords you want to use to target specific consumers.  Then you type those keywords in, up come the results, in a general google search it would be a combination of websites and posts.

Take the top results if you aren't in them, review those posts and do a "ctrl f" search, then type in some of the keywords you are looking to place for and see how they appear in those folks post.

A little bit of joining to beat them:-)  or at least hang in the same places.

All experimentation at this point with some results, just seemed to make good ole sense to me.

Danny-Numbers can reveal so much.  There is an art to sales, but the backbone is in the numbers.

REBECCA, ever once in a while I have one of those ah ha moments.  You just feel like going "duh" when it happens.

This is something that I too will experiment with! I do know that intentional misspellings can have positive results as well. I will need to play around with technorati a bit more as I basically signed up for it and have done little else!

Thanks for sharing your "moment" with us. I will have to take at my tags & keywords to see I can tweak them.
