One of the reasons we have enjoyed our 25 years in Prince William County is the variety of reasonably priced or free recreational opportunities that are available.

There is something happening each and every day of the week for every age group regardless of their interests. It makes no difference if you live in Manassas, Dumfries, Triangle, Manassas Park, Woodbridge, Occoquan, Haymarket or Gainesville - these opportunities are provided by the Prince William County Park Authority, National Park Service, Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and The United States Marine Corps

Two federal parks PRINCE WILLIAM FOREST PARK (17,000 acres) and MANASSAS NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD PARK provide almost unlimited beauty, historical perspectivies and recreational opportunities within 30 minutes from any point in the county. Not to be outdone, the Commonwealth of Virginia operates LEESYLVANIA STATE PARK on the shores of the Potomac River.  Once the plantation home of Henry Lee III (Light Horse Harry of Revolutionary War fame and father of Robert E. Lee) this park is an important natural preserve that is extremely popular with residents of all ages.

The PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY PARK AUTHORITY operates

The NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE MARINE CORPS is where my former Marine husband would love to spend many hours - it is a treasure trove of USMC history

ADDITIONALLY,

For musical entertainment see OLD BRIDGE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA and MUSIC AT THE MARINA

Nothing beats a tour of HISTORIC MANASSAS AND OCCOQUAN - lotsa' history. shops and eateries.

Another major event is the OCCOQUAN RIVER FESTIVAL on July 27 commemorating the 400 year anniversary of John Smith exploring the Occoquan River -  it won't happen again for another 100 years :)

We are proud and honored to be home to our many defenders of freedom interred at QUANTICO NATIONAL CEMETERY.  Stop by and say, "Thank you - job well done".

Hi Karen...With so many fun and interesting things to do near home, why would anyone even consider straying far away.  Save gas and time.  Relax instead.

Thanks for sharing these suggestions.

Karen, with gas prices the way they are I think more people are going to take advantage of those staycations.  That is a very cute word by they way.

Kate  We are fortunate to live in an area that has so much variety to offer Virginia residents - not just Prince William County.  Karen

Marchel  In one way the gas prices are good - it makes us appreciate what we have in our own backyard.  I wish I could take credit for the word "staycation" because it is self-descriptive.  Karen

Karen, I visited the Marine Corps Museum last Wednesday for my birthday.  What a wonderful job they've done with the exhibits there.  By the way, in one of the videos at the museum, there was a "former Marine" who said "I take offense to the term 'former Marine' -- once a Marine, always a Marine"

Make sure to thank your husband from me for his service.

Brian  Belated "Happy Birthtday"  My husband's favorite bumper sticker is "FEEL SAFE - SLEEP WITH A MARINE"    I will relay your message - he expects me to thank him for his service every day and it has nothing to do with the military :)  Karen

I have really enjoyed reading your blog.   I am relatively new to AR and have noticed you have received a lot of points and have achieved a remarkable high ranking. Congratulations!   May I ask if you have had success in turning your high ranking into business?   I am curious if it has been a profitable venture personally as well as financially.   Thanks for sharing and best of luck in your business.
