The City of West Palm Beach (Historic Preservation Division) is taking a pro-active approach to what historic districts all over the country are wrestling with - Houses built up to 1958 have now reached that historic age threshold of 50 years. At first glance, most folks doesn't give homes of this time period much thought - most are simple boxes with straight-forward unadorned facades. But this time period is an extremely important one in our country's history. WWII is over, prosperity returning, veterans coming home, getting married, having families. It was a simple and happy time.
So, even though these homes are anything but glamorous, they represent a significant period of time all over our country. West Palm Beach is beginning steps to include this time period by making these homes now "contributing" structures in the historic districts.
