WHAT IS THAT SMELL?

Last week, I had the pleasure of working with a nice young school teacher. He was seeking to purchase his first home. Because of the price range, we were looking at a lot of properties that were in less than stellar condition. There was one, however, where as soon as we opened the door, we were hit in the face by a smell so bad we were both wondering if there might be a body decaying inside. I promptly closed the door and we moved on. I have to wonder if the listing agent EVER walked into the house. If the smell of the house turns people off so badly that they can't walk through the front door, you'd better be ready to drop the price low enough to make it worth their while to at least brave what they may find.

Hi Gregory - I had a listing that I went to like that once. Like you we never made it past the front door. You would think the agent would check on the listing once in a while.

Hey, Gregory. I think I have been in few like that. Did you ever find out what it was???? I am almost afraid to ask. Have a great week, Jim

Judging from the amount of junk still inside the house, it wasn't a foreclosure.  I didn't find out what it was and wasn't surprised that the agent never called for feedback.

I remember entering a house one time, man, it stunk so bad. Turned out to be a dead squirrel. Thankfully, here in Hawaii there are no squirrels, so I wont have to worry about that again. But, you never know...

I had that happen. Turns out the owner had been transferred and still had food in the fridge. It was probably fine until she didn't pay the electric bill and her power was shut off, I don't know for how long but the smell was overpowering as soon as you went in the front door. I wish I hadn't opened the fridge door though! Needless to say, we didn't stay long.

This is Washington, DC, Gregory!  It could very well be a dead body!  So, if they can smell it, we can't sell it!
