You may recall that I bought a new computer keyboard a few days ago and commented about my exploits in adjusting to it. That was just under 2 weeks ago on Friday, June 27th. What you don't know is that this keyboard broke is less than 24 hours of use. Several of the keys just stopped working.

So I took it back and exchanged it for another - no problem - that is until today. Actually I've noticed several mistakes in my comments the past couple of days, and I just chalked that up to typing too fast. Then today it became apparent that the keyboard was randomly omitting letters and spaces that I was typing.

So I packed it up and once again took it back. This was the Microsoft 1000 optical wireless keyboard and mouse. Based on my experiences, I don't recommend anyone buy it or that it remain on any retail shelves. Time for a recall!

Anyway, I now have a Logitech LX 710 laser keyboard and mouse. I hope this is the last time we'll be talking about this - but one never knows.

Three keyboards (counting my new Logitech) within 2 weeks is a little much.

Steve, I've been noticing that my own old keyboard is beginning to miss letters.  Up 'til now, I just chalked it up to my own absent-mindedness - but after reading your post, I'm not so sure.  In any case, I would think the hard wired keyboards would be considerably more reliable.  Your experience makes me think I'll probably get another hard wired keyboard when I need to replace it.

I do not know, but I have had no luck with wireless keyboards.

Sounds like you got yourself some real junk.  I use the wireless keyboard from logitech and have never had a problem

Brian,

I guess they just don't make keyboards like they used to. My hard-wired Gateway keyboard that came with my machine a year ago was showing serious signs of wear, and the mouse quit months ago. Thanks for commenting.

Michael,

Thanks for your good wishes. I hope this is it also.

Anne,

Maybe the wireless part does have something to do with it. But can't we have both convenience and performance?

Tony,

I have used Logitech in the past and don't remember whether it was a good experience or not, but here goes again. We'll see. Thanks.

Hi Steve... Get a MAC and you will not have to worry about all the Microsoft Junk. I was so surprised that the Mac keyboard was so much better than everything else I was using. Barely have to press the keys...

Michael,

Is the Mac really that much better? I have no qualms about dumping Microsoft, but what about all the people I send documents to and Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint? Thanks for sharing and for your answers to these questions - in advance.

Steve...

Sometimes it's just a bad streak, keep trying and you'll hit the right combination of usability and durability!

Steve

Sounds like a real mess. If the key board not working we are out of business and that's a good place to be.

Good luck with the new keyboard.

Lou,

Thanks. What's not working is the Microsoft products. But the Logitech seems to be working fine, and it's a pleasure using it so far.

That's a shame.  I hope this new one is a good one.  How do you like wireless?

Debi,

Except for when the keyboard didn't do what it was supposed to do, I like the wireless. I've had several over the years - they don't seem to last very long, but on the whole I like them and really like not having the cords strung all over my desk.
