I am in full support of this program and many other localized grant programs. The cost of housing in our Washington State and more locally Wenatchee area market has far exceeded the increases in wages and income. That compounded by the increases we all have had in the current cost of living is making access into home ownership even more difficult.
It is not hard to feel for those living and working in our community that are now paying a higher percentage of their income to increased rents, higher gas, food and material goods. How then do they save to meet the higher down payment lenders are needing. I personally would hope for a diversified group of homeowners not just the middle to higher income families in our Greater Wenatchee Community. It is like our work force being afflicted by many economic challenges.
Simple economics will lead this to a need to increase wages by employers, manufacturers, and reatilers to offset this next.
Yet, there is still one more reason that always is in my mind and heart. As a Realtor, I believe home ownership improves a community in a larger way. It has been made clear to us that homeowners are more vested in their community, schools, and quality of life. There have been many surveys that have shown increased involvement by homeowners in volunteer groups, civic involvement, and decreased crime rates.
How could this not be part of the greater goal for our country and localized community, so it should be on our legislatures mind. As Realtors and believers in alll that the home industry is to our country we should be very vocal on this issue, and not just to generate more commissions.
