Xeriscaping: Think of it as Green Gardening

Member of the Cirrus cactus family in my side yard in Tucson, AZThis lovely cactus is located on a side of my house (west) which has almost no windows.

I planted it to enhance someone else's view.  Our neighbors had invited us for dinner, and I happened to stand at their kitchen window, which looks across their yard at my blank west wall.  The view had nothing to recommend it.

My Darlin' and neighbor Donna were talking on the ramada, while Dick and I were making coffee.

"Donna," I called, "your neighbors haven't given you much to look at from your kitchen window.  I'll have to see what I can do about that."

That's how this little xeriscape garden came to be.  The desert is not devoid of either color or beauty.  Here's proof!

Mike,

What a nice jester to make and it shows that it doesn't take a lot to be a good neighbor.

I think the desert is strikingly beautiful.  It's like a home decorated with a minimalist decor.  Every piece is a treasure and there is no competition among the visual treasures.

Of course I love my Zennia garden too.

Mike:  First of all, how thoughtful you are to do this for your neighbor and secondly, what a truly stunning picture.  I have never been to the desert but maybe some day.
