iphoneIssues I discovered after update:

1. Mobile me did not sync my email accounts from apple mail. This should work right? I think my Iphone, Mail, and MobileMe should all sync, according to Apple. Maybe I did something wrong. I did follow the instructions for syncing through system preferences.

2. Is there a way to delete contacts from address book (mac) and have those deleted contacts then be deleted from MobilieMe and the Iphone? I found this to be a pain the butt. A great new feature though, allowing you to enter your contacts only once (your address book) and have that contact sync to your phone (especially if your going to use a database manager program like file maker)

Useless but cool things I like.

There is this cool little app that controls Itunes from your phone. And there are some other cool games, an ebay watcher (free), ny times icon (free), jott for recording notes, and other cool stuff.

Things that I'm working on...

I've been messing around for a new way to view the MLS from the Iphone. I have been able to paste my IDX code into a webpage by itself and upload it to my website. Its not that great but I'm working to make it better. The link is www.realestateinthetriangle.com/iphone Any mobile should be able to access. Let me know what you think!

Update on deleting contacts....

You can make an empty group in Itunes contact and sync the Iphone to that group. It will sync with the empty group and delete all contacts. This sure beats doing a manual delete. on every single contact. Then re-sync to the Address Book and your done!

2nd Update...

I mistakenly wiped out all of my contacts. I was trying to delete contacts in one place and ended up wiping everything out. This would have not been a big deal had I had Time Machine set up, but I didn't. I had to export my contacts from Skype (thank God I had all my contacs there!) I was expecting all of my email accounts to sync with MobileMe- its not really big deal, but thats what I was hoping for. Right now all of my contacts and email accounts sync through computer and Iphone only.

New Update...

If your Ipohone is not sync'ing properly, turn off sync'ing in the system preferences, fetch new data, advanced. I turned off sync'ing becuase my Iphone stopped sync'ing by itself. I think this was partly due from my tinkering around with the email accounts and what not.
From the home screen, tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, and Calendars, and then tap your MobileMe account.  Move the slider for the data type that is causing you issues.  Wait for confirmation that that data type has been disabled, then press Home.  Confirm that the data has been deleted on your phone, and then turn syncing for that data type back on.

Once the data is gone (no longer synced)- after you turn it back on, it should sync directly from the cloud. It's much easier to woork on the contacts on the mac, then sync to the cloud. If you go to mobileme syncing in your system preferences, under syncing there is an advanced tab, where you can set the sync order. I did this after I lost my contacts then reimported them into address book from skype.

15 Comments on Iphone 2.0 Update and Mobile Me

Well, when I updated 2.0 last night, I lost all 105 contacts. Not sure what went wrong, but it took me half the night to get a download and then the other half to update it.

Aim wouldn't work the first time, so I deleted it and re-downloaded it, now its working.

I purchased the gas mileage widget., put google on, jot it, AOL radio, Idetect (is a great tool to find Wi-fi signals), Salesforce and Speech cloud. Now I have my toys, now to use and understand them.

Hi Nogui. You did everything right... lots of people are complaining of the same issues.

It sounds like I need to be VERY careful when I do my initial sync and have everything backed up.

Nigui - Did you just get the e-mail from Apple/Mac talking about the "PUSH" technology issue?

I haven't gotten email, yet. However, my Iphone is not syncing at all! After the update it stopped working!

Just goes to prove that even Apple can get a bruise once in a while.  Hopefully they will work it out.

Nogui - I am wondering if your iPhone is back up and running smooth after the update.  I got an e-mail regarding MobileMe which described the MobileMe push technology and some speed issues they are having.

Hi Sam, I had a few issues getting in the beginning. The update totally threw everything out of wack. I think part of its my fault, not fully understanding how "Push" works. I still don't understand, quite frankly. But my emails are finally working.

Hey Nogui,

I linked my phone just fine. Others I know lost all contact.  It's just bad luck.

Have you found a good data base contact, to do management system to work with your new phone yet?

Cindy

By the way:  This doesn't link for me.

Nogui - Are the speed issues (delays) resolved with MobileMe push technology?  I have been hearing there are still delays in e-mail delivery to the iPhone and want to determine if this has been resolved yet.

Cindy, the link is down- for now. I've switched companies and I'm in the process of getting my act together.

I haven't found a database user for the iphone yet. I'm thinking of working with the existing mac system now that contacts and calendars are in cyberspace. You can manage the database through address book and Ical, grouping your business contacts seperate from your personal contacts. Of course you can set reminders and tasks for contacting clients, print mailing labels or envelopes right from the print window in address book.

Sam, the system seems to be working fine. There was a syncing issue that resolved itself after I switched to manual syncing from the system preferences for a few of the sync cycles then switched back to automatic and now everything is ok.

Nogui = Thanks for the update and I am happy it is working well for you.

I've been using BusySync - saw it at Macworld in Januar

http://www.busymac.com/

Syncs two computer iCals to Google Calendar

Only thing I don't like is that if I have the same category (calendar) on two iCal Calendars it doesn't recognize it as the same, and appends a version number

I spent an undue amount of time on mobile me and decided to shelve it until the blood from the bleeding edge people is wiped up... the calendar is way to critical for me to risk losing appointments.

Ira,

I take it you've been having sync issues? Try going to a manual sync in your system preferences and turning sync on and off in your iphone. I did that and got my Iphone working properly. Also if you the time, try going to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store. They might be able to help.
