Montgomery Place

This was the home of Janet Livingston Montgomery a member of one of the largest land owning families of the time.  Alexander Jackson Davis a well known architect of the time was responsible for the design.

Montgomery Place  was constructed in 1805 on 434 beautiful acres with views of the Hudson River and Catskills Mountains.   The beautiful grounds showcase lovely roses and herb gardens as well as an orchard.  Just the other day I took a leisurely walk on the grounds, enjoyed the great views, the beautiful hemlock trees, walked down a long path until I ended up at a great waterfall that Montgomery Place shares with Bard College.

When you complete your tour besides getting a gift at the gift shops, you can also pick up other gift items as well as fresh produce at Montgomery Place Farm Stand on Route 9G.

Directions

Recently, I have been telling people about places they could visit closer to home and this is certainly one of them.  While in Red Hook, don't quit after seeing Montgomery Place. Go down the road to the Richard B. Fisher Center at Bard college and check out the Bard Summerscape schedule for a show that appeals to you.  if you can't stay for the show I am sure you will be glad to get the opportunity to see this distinctive Frank Gehry designed building.

Jennifer, That place is where I would be spending a lot of time if I lived up there.  The beauty along the Hudson always amazes me.  Thank you for a lovely video.

Jennifer-

I love the video tour. You give the Hudson Valley great tips for "Sta"cations and entice others to come visit. We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful area of the country. Thank you for highlighting the great things to do!

Have a great weekend!

Jennifer that is a beautiful old house, but 434 acres might just be a little to much grass for me to cut :) :)

Carole - This is really a great place to take a walk, I just love the flowers and the huge old trees.  I would plan my walk so I would end at the waterfall.

Brian - That sounds like a dream many of us have.  Glad you enjoyed the tour.

William - You are so right about the architecture, that is one of the things I appreciate about the area such a variety.

Yvette - You would not be disappointed

Barbara- So many people who live in the area don't avail themselves of these wonderful sites.  I hope the small tour will be an enticement to many.

Kimberly - It is wonderful you could take a tour from home, technology has certainly made our world smaller.

Peter - I was afraid to ask:)

George - I know what you mean, I have to mow 3 acres and that is really too much for me.

Hi Jennifer,

Wow, what an amazing place and over 400 acres! A question, does the tour include the interior of that spectacular home?

Jennifer, I am really beginning to enjoy your video tours of the area. These are such a great tool to use to show people what an area has to offer. I have got to start doing that myself. That estate looked magnificent and seems like an amazing place to see.
