NC's Ferry System

North Carolina has a Ferry system on the east coast for those who love the experience.  It operates under the US Cost Guard Maritime Transportation Security Act.  This authorizes identification checks and random vehicle searches.  The ferry can accommodate ANY size vehicle but requires a special Ferrypermit for those over 65 ft.  The terminal signs are located off of the major highways by way of directional signs.

The website is www.NCFerry.org with a contact number of 1-800-BY-FERRY to get the latest copy of their schedule and times they leave.  While there are restrooms on the vessel, there is no food available for a route that ranges from 30 minutes to 2 hours and 30 minutes.  Dogs are also allowed but must be kept in the vehicle or on a leash if roaming.
