I have never been considered an advocate for energy conservation or the global impacts of fossil fuels. But a recent show on the History Channel http://www.history.com/ opened my eyes to our use and dependency on crude oil, its origin and the fact that the world will run out some day soon, and most likely within our lifetime. The DVD, simply entitled "Crude", http://store.aetv.com/html/product/index.jhtml?id=110390 , can be purchased from the History Channel.
I then had the opportunity to speak with a couple that want to build their own home within the next couple of years that utilizes renewable energy sources such as a windmill for electricity and solar panels to provide hot water along with a geo thermal heating system.
Then, at a recent conference with The Masiello Group, we had the opportunity to hear from a speaker for the New Hampshire Carbon Challenge. http://carbonchallenge.sr.unh.edu/ The presentation was made to incorporate real estate and how homeowners can reduce their carbon emissions within their own homes. This was moving and informative and just solidified the info provided in the show on the History Channel and the fact that everyone needs to make steps towards reducing our carbon emissions and ultimately changing our dependency on crude oil.
After being exposed to these, I had to ask, how can we get Southern New Hampshire and the Nashua area on board with these issues? The combinations of my recent connections have made me realize the need to make changes now. If we don't, we will not be prepared when the oil switch is turned off forever.
