The Gong Show Returns!

I was watching a commercial for the upcoming The Gong Show...a remake (or copy) of the 1970's series. It looks way more harsh than the old one was. Now, a lot of you won't remember this show because you weren't even born yet but basically they have 'talented' (or not) people perform and if they totally were rotten then they would bang on this big old gong.

I sat and wondered what life in the Real Estate business would be like if:

I had an unruly client who kept voicing their "unwarranted and unprofessional" opinions. Can I please gong them?...and then tell them that I am the Realtor® and they don't know diddly.
I had an unreal transaction go into escrow BUT the escrow officer, other agent, loan officer and everyone involved in the transaction all of a sudden couldn't be reached. Can I please gong them? ....and then what?
I couldn't get a word in edgewise because there's always someone who always talks louder and cuts right in when I'm talking. Can I gong them? ....and then continue on with what I was talking about?
If someone just starts talking so negatively that I really have to GONG THEM.
If someone just continuosly keep talking about ME this and ME that and ME all over the world....can I just gong them...please?????

Can I just gong them all? It sure seems a lot more pleasant than giving them a dirty look.....

....or in most of my cases give them a look like I'm going to barf. My facial expressions I do not hide.

Maybe that's the gong.

Sally, the dirty look may be more effective. You remember when you got the dirty look as a child - it worked well and you started to listen almost immediately. Where is the gong in your picture?

Well there are buyers, sellers AND agents who all deserve the gong. I remember the show and this made me laugh.

Jeff: That show was the in thing back then huh? I cracked up seeing the commercial. Such controversy back then ... they would find anything to gong the show for too.

Sally, I know a couple of people who wanted to gong me today, and I wouldn't bbbbbbblame them!

Some days this would be perfect! I'm told my facial expressions tell all, I'm not very good at hiding what I'm thinking! LOL! :)

I think that sounds like a good idea. I am going to get a gong for the office. I am sure that some people would like to gong me too ;)

Sally, my age shows here as I do remember that show. I can see how the new show would be more harsh. Look at how harsh televison has become in these 30 some years. There are times that I would like to gong someone but I am respectful and keep my gong to myself. Gee it would be fun though.

Maybe a gong along with the "I'm going to barf look"! Could be really effective.

Sally, well I am old enough to remember that show real well. There have been a few Borrowers that I would have liked to GONG, including one today :)

Sis - I've only caught the original series a handful of times, but I do love the old game shows. Like the analogy here, I feel like banging a gong on occasion myself. Hopefully, like a fart in a breeze, it's echo isn't traveling in my general direction:-)

I can think of more than a few situations where I would love to use the gong.

Woo Hoo, that is so like you. Why not just tell everyone to shut up so you can get a word in edge wise. With a smile of course.

Patricia: Yeah, there's times I believe someone may want to gong me.....but for not good reason. lol! I think I really nag when they don't do what they need to be doing to make the transaction run smoothly. And that's all the way around.

Suzanne: Sometimes my facial expressions work better than trying to interrupt back...then again I have been known to say....you know..you just interrupted me. Then they'll say oh, sorry ....what did you want to say? And I'll just be the little b I am and say...never mind ..you ruined the moment LOL!

Audrey: We have a bell in our office to ring for the new agent who just closed their first transaction. Now we need a giant gong hahaha.

Lorinda: Cool...twice, three times....gong every time they open their mouth lol!

Marchel: Being positive doesn't mean we let people run all over us....I love to say that :) :) Yup, sometimes I just shut up...walk away...while they're talking lol! I know...it sounds kind of mean...but believe me....some are just oblivious

Joan: I used to hear that punching a pillow does great for stress....but where's the fun in doing that at home...where no one knows what they're doing? How they're affecting others. Hey...gong away so they have to stop and cover their ears. Then when they take their hands away the rest of us can get a word in lol!

Sally, those of us old enough to remember the gong show know how you feel. The tenants upstairs? GONG!!! LOL.

Sally, oh my goodness. I'd love to have a gong that I could keep in my office or carry around with me. Now that would be spectacular. GONG GONG GONG! And by the way, despite my youthful appearance, I actually do remember watching the originial Gong Show -- even if I was 4 or 5 years old at the time.

Maybe you can hire Chuck Barris to call them. I have my own little gong show over here. I gonged someone at a closing Friday.

Maybe not Gong them...rather berate them like a Simon Cowell critique!

Woo-Hoo: LOL...I so remember the GONG show. I saw the new promotion, also. Not sure I'll watch it, except once maybe. I WISH we could use the "Gong" thingy here and there when people life gets on our nerves. It'd sure make us feel good--for a moment anyway.

Sally, I would love to have a gong handy...especially for those buyers & sellers are just so unrealistic in their wants...Wouldn't we all love a 1500 sq ft. 3 BR/3BA oceanfront condo for under 100k? GONG!

Sally, My clients could not close on time because a real well known national lender forwarded their money to a different escrow account. This lender was going to charge my clients for their mistake and interest for the days they could not close!!!!! I was on the phone one day (my client's lender was no where to be found) and trying to make sure we closed, my clients did not get charged for the lender's mistake, and no interest was charged. Now pass me that GONG.

I have had a lot of clients that made me want to "gong" them over the years. I had no idea that the show was returning to the air. I may check it out! The closest thing we have had lately is the early American Idol audition episodes.

The Gong Show! I tell my children all the time, Oh yes, I read about that in my hostory class! LOL

I do remember the show and would love to apply the concept to some real life situations. I have even thought of using the mallet somewhere other then on the gong.

Sally, I have been out of the rain for a few days and SO glad I caught this post. I never, EVER have a client I want to Gong...until last week. I couldn't get her to even hear what I had to say.....but it was the gentleman who had called me, she perhaps should have missed the consult :) The Gong would have come in handy.

Great Blog: There are so many people I come accross each week that I would certainly like to Gong! If not just for the sole fact of getting them to pay attention, or getting them to understand.. The next thing that came to mind about your blog? Is who the heck can replace "Chuck Berris", the creator of the original gong show, his zaney antics and ability to do one liners is what made that show. I can not see a successful remake of the Gong Show.

Carole: I think we'll have a lot of clients, peers etc we want to gong....I wanted to gong a member last night but I didn't have one with me!

Thomas: Me either....when I saw the commercial I was like...okay...way harsh and crude....lol!
