Millburn/Short Hills Graduate Alex Bick Makes Great Discoveries

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty Premier Properties

Alex Bick, graduate of Millburn High School, is yet another fine example of just how exceptional the Millburn/Short Hills school district is. Bick was the first of a number of Millburn High School students in the past three years to be named an Intel Science Talent Search semifinalist. Bick has revolutionized the ways in which a personal digital assistant (PDA), like a Palm Pilot, can be used. Bick’s high school science teacher, Mr. Gilmore, explained the project as “unlocking the untapped power of a PDA”. Millburn High School and Alex Bick were both awarded $1,000 by Intel for his findings. Bick has recently finished his sophomore year at Harvard University and continues to win awards and funds for redesigning electronics.

Alex, along with classmate Winston Yan, who was also an Intel semifinalist, discovered a means to download the well liked “Let’s Go” travel guides to cell phones in a resourceful and easy way. Their discovery has earned them a two-year grant of $50,000 to develop their Rover Mobile Tour Guide program. This very generous grant comes from the Harvard College Innovation Challenge Competition. In addition to the grant, the two students are now general managers of their project, which is backed by the Harvard Student Agencies. Bick and Yan will be receiving annual salaries of approximately $15,000 plus 20% profit-sharing during the rest of their college careers.

New home owners in Millburn/Short Hills will be very please to know that their community truly values and nurtures intelligence in their children.
