IT'S SUMMER -- WHY NOT GO WIRELESS?

WIRELESS WORLDWELCOME TO THE NASHUA WIRELESS NETWORK

Next week is the official launch of Nashua Wirelss Network.

The Nashua Chamber of Commerce along with other local businesses (Hampshire First Bank, FairPoint,Active Edge and Aboundi) have spearheaded this project. The Great American Downtown was also involved in making WIFI a reality.

The network is to stretch from Southern New Hampshire Medical Center and then going up Main Street - To date, the signal was reported to be as far North as Railroad Square and as far south as Sovereign Bank!

Now you can eat, drink, bank, have business meetings, socialize, network, visit art galleries, promote the ideas of walklable distances, sustainability and community...  and GO WIRELESS!

Thanks to all the local businesses and individuals who have helped to made Nashua a viable downtown business center.

Visit downtown Nashua ~ see you on the Nashua Network!

Joan, that's great news! I'm going to send your post to my sister, I know she'll be glad to hear the news. With six kids, she needs to get out of the house by herself!

Robert~ I think this will definately bring more people to the area.  It is nice to see the downtown area coming back to life and it will help both the businesses and those using WIFI downtown.

George~  Maybe you can put a bug in the ear of your local Chamber of Commerce to do something like this.  I think a lot of cities are going this direction.

Debbie~ I think this will be the perfect excuse for your sister to get out of the house and travel to the rejuvinated downtown Nashua!   I think she will be pleasantly surprised.

Joan~ Well, lets see -- I think you should come to Nashua for a stroll around downtown with or without the wireless connection -- We can sit out on the water at Margueritas and enjoy the sunset!

Duane~  I am really thrilled that Nashua downtown and the businesses in the area have made WIFI available in the downtown area.  This is the type of innovation that will keep America's downtowns the center of activity.  Kudos to them them!

janeAnne ~ Thanks for the addition -- see above!  You are so right and that is exactly what the next steps are going to be.  It is being planned and hopefully the funding will fall into place.

Bill~    I love being able to sit outside with a client and enjoy some sunshine with a client.  I think this is going to be an asset for Nashua and for the downtown community.

Catherine ~ Are your wireless in Reno.  I would think with all of the hotels etc., a lot of wireless is available.

wish ours was as progressive a community as yours. here in them hills, we can't go across town w/out hitting countless spots where there is no reception at all, free or otherwise.

cheers

I hope this works for you better than all the other cities including Portland that have tried it and after a couple years have trashed it and shut it down.

I hope it brings your community together!

Joan... this sounds great.  I was just in NH this weekend (Concord) to visit my cousins there and LOVED it.  Somehow I can see this working better in a smaller city like Nashua than in a larger city like Portland... Good luck with it.

Gary  I would think it is a challenge in the Lake Tahoe area -- however, it is so beautiful there, who needs a phone.

Todd  I know the Chamber did a lot of research about what worked and what did not work.  They opted for some technology which is supposed to be superior to what other states used in the beginning.  I hope they have solved those issues.  I'll keep you posted.

Steve~  Next time you plan to be in New Hampshire, let me know.  Concord is only about 45 minutes away and I am up there pretty often since that is where the state realtor organization meets (NHAR).  Hope you enjoyed Concord.  Perhaps you can visit in the fall and enjoy the foilage.  I am good friends with "the other Joan" so perhaps we can have a mini AR meeting! (lol)

Mary~ There are several people in Nashua who have a vision for a sustainable, renewable downtown, including affordable living spaces, walking paths and hopefully a rail system to Boston.  Of course, I wish everything could be done yesterday -- but the projects are moving forward a step at a time.

That's cool!  There are some places in my area, but it is spotty, and certainly not all in a row.

Ronald~  I know some areas have not had as much success as others.  The technology used for this project seems to be better than some of the older technology.  Hopefully, this will work throughout the downtown area.
