I had someone ask me the other day how I added the email link into one of my market reports. Here is what the box looked like containing the email link:

Jeremy Blanton is a REALTOR with Coldwell Banker Chicora Real Estate and a member of The Blanton Team in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I am an Accredited Buyers Representative as well as a Relocation Specialist. If you are either looking to purchase or sell real estate anywhere in the world, do not hesitate to contact me for assistance.

Myrtle Beach Information
888-449-4404 ext. 38 (toll free)
843-222-9402 (cell)

If someone were to click on the link in the box that says contact me for assistance, it will automatically open up their email program and place my email address in the "To:" box. With the recent launch of outside blogs, giving consumers who are reading our posts on these sites a quick and easy way to email us directly from the post is crucial. It saves them time and effort in getting directly in contact with us.

So how do you set up a direct email link? Well it is actually a very simple process.

First, type whatever text you wish for the email link to be. For the text box above, I used Contact Me for Assistance. Others that you may use could be Email Me, or Contact me Now! or Let me know how I can assist you. You can use anything you wish for the link.

After typing the text you want, Highlight the text. I prefer to put my links in Bold to help them stand out better in my posts & email. To do the next step, you are going to use some basic html coding. DO NOT PANIC!!!

Click on the link button and type in the following:

mailto:youremail@address.com
Email
if your email was Jeremy@activerain.com it would be like this:
Email Me
Just change out the Jeremy@activerain.com for whatever your actual email address is and click insert. You have now successfully added a direct email link to your post.

As you continue to write quality posts both here on Activerain & also on your Outside Blogs, remember this easy tip to get consumers directly in contact with you quickly & efficiently!

Jeremy,

Great post! BUT...I receive emails from customers who get frustrated when they visit our site. We, too, use an email link....which SHOULD automatically open their email client, but doesn't in all instances.

If you use Outlook or Outlook Express (for example)....yes, clicking on an email link will automatically open your email program. BUT...there are tons of people (consumers and agents) who have hotmail, yahoo, aol, gmail and earthlink types of email accounts. Clicking on an email link will NOT fire up their email client automatically.

The workaround???

Make sure you have your actual email address on the page somewhere. If you have only "Click here to contact me"...the customer may not notice that the link will show up in the lower left hand corner of their browser (which cannot be copied and pasted). But if you have your actual email address showing in text, they can highlight it and paste it into their TO: box when they want to send you a message.
