If you're one of those members who regularly accesses the ActiveRain Blogs Page, and follows the 'Featured' posts that show up on the Dashboard, you've probably been seeing some additional wording in a few of the blog post titles, such as LOCALISM FEATURED and MARKET REPORT FEATURED.

Since we've just recently launched the new Localism platform, I thought it would be a good idea to start featuring some of the better, well-crafted 'Consumer-oriented' articles that are targeted specifically towards Localism.

In addition, I have been 'featuring' a few market reports as well. Personally, I think there is a real art to generating an effective market report. Simply throwing together a few graphs and some numbers isn't necessarily going to make consumers beat a path to your blog.

Hopefully, by featuring these LOCALISM articles & market reports, our members will have some great examples to follow, and learn additional ways to improve their own blogging skills.

Jimmy and Jeremy:  I have you both on my blog subscription list, so I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for some KILLER local content articles and market reports!

Now, more than ever, is the time to be ramping up the amount of content you are contributing to Localism! I plan on writing another post soon to explain why....

Hi Rich, Thanks for the post and the ideas contained herein. I know that many of us seek to always put our best foot forward and in so doing provide consumers with great information. While I think the market report is quite valuable and would like to do more in that regard, there are certainly a lot of other things and issues that are also important. I would guess you sense there maybe  more behind my statement than the obvious.

Hi Rich,

So now my market reports suck or they just not your cup of tea or even they only belong on the lower end of the food chain? Or it doesn't fit the "snobs"?

When you said "Simply throwing together a few graphs and some numbers isn't necessarily going to make consumers beat a path to your blog."

Then I guess when I get consumer contact on these blogs they only liked the overall numbers or did they feel sorry for me because they thought it was boring..come on? Just busting your butt a little but I think the way my reports are done seem to generate results so why do I need to change them? I'm not saying I can't be more creative and I have but most of them have the data that is not pasted into my post. It's looked up manually and then I personally spend the extra time putting it into the post....now I do agree that some I've seen are just pasted right from the MLS or websites but I can't speak for them if they are getting results only mine. It's also about the key words and the search words that the consumer uses to find us.

I'll try to enhance my next one for you:)

You are a price as usual, Rich. Look forward to finally meeting you next week. There's this crab house we ate at on the Chesapeak Bay... crab cakes to die for. Thought of you.

cheers

Neal:  For crying out loud, stop taking everything I say as a personal attack against you!...geesh!...(said with tongue in cheek!)

Hey, if it's working for you, then by all means, keep doing what your doing man. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! And it's my guess, that your graphs and numbers aren't doing 'squat.' It's your 'Hunka-Hunka Burnin' Love profile pic that gets 'em!

The ones simply copied and pasted from the MLS is exactly what I was referring to here. Let's face it, there's a bunch of 'brain-dead' butt ugly market reports floating around this place. There was zero energy or forethought that went into their creation, and it offers little, if no value for consumers.

Your posts don't have to be a Hemingway or a Michaelangelo, but as a minimum, they should convey some small measure of who & what you (the author) are, and the unique flavor of your particular market.

My market stats/posts don't have bells and whisles.... it's just the "facts man".   I sure would love a "featured" post some day.  But I sure don't have time to be as artistic as some.  But hey....my AR blogs drives business to me....and I love it.

Christine:  They don't need to have any bells & whistles to be effective, but they should contain something of you, and a sense of your community flavor....But like I said to Neal, if it's working for you, don't change anything...

Rich,

Now who's doing the belly aching! Just because you sit on your perch on your boat eating free crab and sipping your designer water and think your the King of Activerain doesn't mean you can abuse members with all your senseless poppy cock or should I say poopy or crapola? Did I butter you up enough? The check is in the mail!

All kidding aside...my secret is because a very well known AR member who you also know very well helped me get them right so the consumer can see them...actually one reason why anyone will have success with them is most people don't write them and they come up at the top of the search engines...it is interesting how that happens.

Now my next market report that I write will have clown faces, bells and whistles and maybe a few songs from the Real Deal Lounge Lizard song styling collections just to annoy the consumer:))

Hi Rich- You and Neal keep jumping in the puddles, to see who can splash higher.  It will give me time to pull some stats together, for a Localism, Market report post. ;-)

Seriously, I like your idea of labeling some of the better Localism and Market Report blogs.  Hopefully, it will spark some new ideas - no need to re-invent the wheel.

Neal:  Designer water? Oh, Please! Pass me a beer, will ya? And I'm just another one of the members here, something I will not forget either. Just wait til' NAR in Orlando. I'll show you some abuse, Buddy!

Using SEO tricks to get things to rise to the top of the page is important, but the quality of content keeps the reader engaged and coming back for more!

I think I just misplaced your points for July....hehehe

I'm happy to see that market reports are considered a valuable offering for the new localism!  Now if somebody can just help me with my past blogged listing scenario, I wil be a happy camper and my lovely, but anxious seller may quit calling me everyday.

I post a lot to localism and don't see how I'm not a Top Neighbor, but I assume things will get worked out.  I'll continue to blog and do more market updates, but I prefer community stuff like the next art show, the next city sponsored activity, the next food drive, and those things instead of always talking numbers...

Rich, I think that's a GREAT idea.  In the past I have had several localism post that were featured but you just quietly got extra points.  That's okay but it is nice to get that extra pat on the back for a job well done.

I've got a lot of market reports to reconfigure so they display correctly in the narrower confines of Localism. What is the width of the content column and maximum photo size we can use in our posts?

Rich- I think this is a great idea to highlight great market reports. There are some great ones like Margaret Woda's. I don't like to do graphs and so mine tend to be more in the story like format. To each his own, whatever works! It's working for us:)

Rich,

You better be nice or I'll write a post about you. Maybe I'll add you to my market reports or should I post your photo all over it...nah...I don't want to scare away the consumer.

On the other hand..if I mention the word Rich then maybe they think if they call me I'll make them some money.

Send me some King Crab in season...isn't it Dec-Feb?

Rich, thanks for giving me Neal's points for July, they were greatly appreciated.

As for my market reports, I am trying to get a little more pizzazz to them.  One thing that I lack is creativity.  I can rant with the best, and be technical, but the creative sometimes lack.

Jeremy: It doesn't have to be 'creative' per se...  My past market reports aren't very flashy or sophisticated. But they reveal a bit of my personality, and some sense of the uniqueness of my market. Most of my local content articles read like an informal conversation over coffee.

Rich, I'm still very green at this and really enjoyed reading about the launch of the marketing report group. I'm hoping to get my feet wet w/it this week. I've done them for years the "old fashioned way" on paper. This will be fun. Thanks for your patience with us!
