GETTING NEW AGENTS

By
Real Estate Agent with One Sothebys International Realty

How times have changed!  Very few people are taking the Florida state exam for a realtor's license & as a result, my broker has instituted a program to reward agents that help recruit experienced realtors from other brokerages.  New blood is critical to the business; brokerages are scrambling to remain competitive.

From an agent's point of view, however, it's a tad easier not having SO many agents in the business.  True, competition remains keen but at least now, not everyone has a friend, brother, cousin, etc. in the business.  There will very likely  be further agent attrition in the months ahead; I believe, however, that as soon as the market shows signs of life, people will, once again, be drawn to the realty field. Why?  Because many folks still think the realty profession is easy money.

Dalia - I have also offered my current agents a "bonus" for bringing an agent into the office. Can you share what type of plan your broker is offering?

MOORE Thoughts

Only blood attracts vampires and bloodsuckers more than real estate!  I say that knowing that there are still a lot of good, hard working agents out there.  As with all professions, it's the few that give the many that proverbial blackeye.

Debbie:  My brokerage pays the referring agent $500 outright if they hire someone referred by the agent.  For the next 5 years, the brokerage will pay the referring agent a descending % of any deal that the new agent does.  So, in year 1, 6% of the new agent's deals, 5% in year 2, 4% in year 3, etc.  Those percentages are paid out of the brokerage's side of the deals.

Thanks, everyone, for commenting!

We don't seem to be having a mass exodus yet, although there seem to be a few more agents looking for part time work to supplement their income.
