Hollywood in the Hills - FREE Movie Nights in Bedford, Virginia

Looking for a fun family activity this summer? When was the last time you watched a movie outdoors? Hollywood in the Hills in Bedford, Virginia is a free outdoor movie program that is in its fourth season. Held on Saturdays throughout the summer at the Bedford Elementary School, the gates open at 7:00 pm. Movies are shown on the atletic field at dusk (7:30pm). In case of rain or windy conditions, the movies will be held in the Bedford Elementary gym. To get a great spot, come early. You can enjoy the sunset over the D-Day Memorial located on the hill above the school. Movies scheduled are:

July 19 -- Surf's Up
August 16 -- Happy Feet
September 20 -- We Are Marshall

Bedford Elementary School is located just off of Rte 460, follow signs for the D-Day Memorial

This sounds like great fun! Movies out in the open air are unlike anything else.

Debbie, I cannot remember the last time I watched an outside movie...

Ruthmarie, our summer nights are so mild (and relatively bug free) it is a pleasant experience.

Michael, this is something you HAVE to do. I remember movie nights at campgrounds as a kid, so much fun!

Sounds exciting. I am sure you get a great turnout. We have summer concerts in our area.

Gita, growing up in New England meant summer concerts at the bandstand in the center of town, whatever town you lived in. I think that's why I love movie night so much, reminds me of my childhood. Thanks for commenting

This is great! We have one drive-in theatre left in Milford NH -- and the kids love it... but it isn't free! This sounds like a great way for the family to do something together! Enjoy.

Joan, there were so many drive-in's in Massachusetts when I was growing up. It's sad that this part of Americana has gone by the wayside. Though, there is a new drive-in being built at Smith Mountain Lake right now, so I'm excited about it. Thanks for commenting.

Sounds like a fun thing to do with the kids

Krista, even my teenagers love it! My daughter went to an outdoor movie "Rear Window" this past week. I'm glad this generation has the opportunity we had as kids. Thanks for commenting.

Debbie: What fun! We are lucky enough to have one of the few remaining drive-in theaters in GA right here in Blue Ridge. There is truly something special about watching a movie "under the stars!"

Kim, I agree and you are lucky to have several theaters near you. I love going to evening concerts too, there's something about sitting on the grass under the stars.....

Hi Debbie this reminds me of going to a drive in movie as a kid. I bet this is a lot of fun :)

Bill, do you have any drive-ins left near you? The Wamesit drive in in Tewksbury survived til Home Depot went in about ten years ago.
