For long distance moves, costs are usually based on weight and distance. Also, be sure to give the moving company an accurate description of both your new and previous residence (stairs, restrictions, etc...).

Finally, schedule a move date that is both convenient and cost effective. You may have to be more flexible with dates on a long-distance move than a local move, because moving companies base rates on fully-loaded trailers.
