Well, St. Louis is trying to bring chess back to kids and adults alike.  The Chess Club and Scholastic Center is scheduled to open tomorrow for chess players of all ages!

I think this is a great idea.  I have never joined a chess club, but I have always enjoyed playing and think that this game is worthwhile.  It really makes you think, strategize and plan ahead.

The cost will be $30/year for full-time students, $80/year for adults, and $120/year for families - very reasonable.st

Chess was huge in my family, way back when.  I was in a chess club in school and won the school championship in 6th grade.  Haven't played in Many Years.  We need one in Orlando!!

I love chess!  It's a shame there are not more clubs everywhere.  It teaches you how to think.  Good luck.

Rebecca - Wow!  It sounds like you were good.  You would've made mincemeat out of me...  Still could, I bet...  :)

Randall - I agree.  My dad taught me, and we both taught my children.  They're better at it than I am!  :)

I tried chess once years and years ago and decided it was too difficult for this (at that time) young girl.  Good luck with it.

Debi,

Chess is fun. I remember playing games (or are they matches) in the hallway in high school before class and at lunch. I enjoyed it and won about as much as I lost. We never went in for that timer though.

Barbara - I'm not very good at it, but I do enjoy it.  I like playing the computer version.  :)

Steve - I'm intimidated by the timer, too, but it does make it challenging!  :)

Duane - I think it's a good idea, too.  I hope people take advantage of it...  :)

Debi.. I appreciate chess, and I understand some moves... but I am not wiz at the game.  I hope they do bring it back. Like you said it is a great way to learn, think outside the box, and to work on strategies.

Is this like where you go into a room and play against somebody you don't really know? Can't you just do that online?

Hi Debi, Thank You for displaying the value of playing chess!  My 14 year olf nephew is a champion chess player on the Chess Team in junior high.  Playing chess keeps his mind sharp!

What a wonderful idea.  Kids spend so much time in front of the TV or video games that they are having a hard time socializing.

This will get their brains working on another level and get them selves out with the peers

Valerie - I'm not any good at it, either, but I still like to play.  :)

Elizabeth - Yes, but I guess it's a little more personable when you can look at the person you are playing against...  :)

Dan - Good for your nephew!  I'm really impressed.  I hope he continues to do well...  :)

Virginia - I agree.  Chess is great for exercising the mind.  Thanks for stopping by!  :)
