So while enjoying the more palatable Florida temps and some R&R at the beach recently....

...I came across an interesting article in the Daytona Beach News Journal about a fellow Realtor who has to subsidise her income with a 2nd job due to the slump in the housing market.

We have had a somewhat slower few months than winters past, but thankfully not to the point when a 2nd job has become a necessity to eat. My heart goes out to you. Spring is almost here (although that white stuff on the ground is still hanging around) and the phones are ringing and the appointments are being made. It may be attitude, but we are geared up for "The Best Year Ever" It's a great time to buy a home in Maryland.

Hi Ellie! This is just normal - one of the main reasons new agents don't make it in our profession. "Gee, I guess I'll have to quit real estate and get a steady job!" Ha! Anytime there is a dip in the real estate market, the "herd needs to be culled", as it has gotten to big to sustain every member. And those who just got in during the "good times" now are finding out that to really be a real estate agent, you actually have to work for a living! "You mean that I can't just put up a for sale sign on my new listing and kick back waiting for it to sell? I'm actually going to have to spend money marketing it?" ;-) So of course the newspapers pick up on the agents who are failing - "See how bad it is out there, folks!" - but rarely write about the long-time pros that just keep on keeping on. There is an old saying, "10% of the agents are doing 90% of the business". It is just as true now as it was when I first got licensed in the 70's. They are successful year after year, good markets or bad ones.

Good points Win, I also believe too many agents believe this is a job and not a business. It is all about attitude.

Ellie, I have heard that from Seasoned agents for almost a year now. It is a shame. I also conduct auctions, so I guess that would be MY second job :)

Ellie-IT IS ALL ABOUT ATTITUDE which is why some make it and some don't. I was told by many "old Timers" that I would starve in Dec & Jan-Dec was my 2nd best month and Jan wasn't to bad. This year is shaping up to be the "best year ever"

I am a Maryland transplant from many other places, most recently Florida, but since 1997 I have found my true home in the heart of this great State. Maryland has it all. Mountains 3 hours to the West, the Atlantic Ocean 3 hours to the East and head North and South for either Philadelphia and New York or Washington DC. It is the perfect location! The Metro Baltimore area offers a rich mix of history and modern amenities. City living, suburbia or "not a neighbor in sight" is available in this area. Excellent Schools, amazing communities and an incredible location is why many people choose to live in Central Maryland. I proudly help my clients buy and sell all types of homes in Howard County and beyond. Enjoying the entire process is my goal for my clients. Every transaction is different and everyone has different needs. I know the Metro Baltimore area well and I am current on the Real Estate Market activity- That's my job. As your "Buyers Agent" I will work diligently to find you the home that suits all your needs. I will update you immediately when a home matches your search criteria. I will educate you on the current market and help you craft the best offer possible. I will "hold your hand" throughout the entire process. As your "Listing Agent" I will coach and guide you from day one to put your best foot forward when you list your home. I will use aggressive and innovative marketing strategies to give your home the best exposure possible. I will use modern technology and multiple resources that other agents do not use. I WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH PROOF OF ALL MY EFFORTS. I am a full time agent and I my number one goal is to give you exceptional service ALWAYS.
