What does an inspector do when it is three in the morning, and he is contemplating life, the universe, and why his dog is staring at him? He decides to have fun with his website. To that end, a forum on my site went live today.

In my hopes of creating a “third place” for internet users looking for information about their home on my blog, I thought it important to enable visitors to develop threads in this space on their own. Being new to this software, I will have to see what has been created, but I think it would be interesting to see visitors interacting with each other. Posing questions about home maintenance, or aspects of buying or selling a home, or anything else that could be about life in the home or city, which would allow a community to evolve.

If you wish to visit this forum, you will find a link in my blog's header, or you can follow me to this bulletin board. You are welcome to join, and create your own discussions. Maybe we can see what develops together.

Your Houston Home Inspector,

Frank Schulte-Ladbeck

Frank, I have never thought about adding a forum. This is intriguing and something that I will have to look into. Thanks for the push.

Danny, as you know, most visitors do not comment, but there are visitors who like the idea of posting questions or discussing on bulletin boards. I prefer the blog format, but why not give the people what they want (or what they might want). I did not mention it in the post, but the software was a free (donations appreciated) open source forum called PHPBB. It was quite easy to install, but I have to learn some more to have what I want. Yabb is the other open source program that is great, but it looks like you need to know a bit more for it.

Frank - I did click your link. I do belong to a couple of Forum but to be honest I don't visit very often. One of them is a Texas Forum, can not remember who is the sponsor. I pretty well have my time alloted to AR and few of my direct blogs. But, never say never, I'll keep an eye on your new Forum and I wish you well. I just don't want to get too spread out right now.

Carl, I have never been big on forums either. I take a look at InspectionNews every so often, but I have not participated there in over a year. With the new site, I am having a bit of fun to see what I can develop, so we will see how it goes.

Frank - That is the Texas forum I was referring to; just could not remember the name. I will bookmark this so I can check back in the future. I just noticed the time, you need to get your rest Frank. Remember, concentrate on developing your inspection business in this tough market. Sure a allot of new inspectors coming on board, I see the License numbers are over 10,000.

Take care -

I am trying Carl. I think I will take a nap today :) The real diffcult day for me was Friday: three jobs in three different cities and rush hour traffic. Oh what fun. I only took on three jobs because the third client had decided upon an inspection at the last moment, and their time was coming to an end.

I have been watching the numbers rise too. I thought it might slowdown after the new rules were enacted last year. By the way Carl, did you see John Cahill's post on peerviewblog about his suggestion for the SOP? He wants a method to review a line in the SOP as to its meaning. His suggestion involves the AG's office to review what a definition of a deficiency could mean. I like the idea, but not the execution. I think maybe someone like Devon Bijansky at TREC should be the one to review. It will be interesting to see what comes of it.

Frank - It's a play on words. Is it in need of repair or is in deficient? - Have to be careful on this one.
