Lately I have been working in conjunction with Rich Dansereau of The Thornton Team @ Home America Mortgage in getting our website improved. He wrote a post last week about some of the changes that we made. The creation of a new "link to us" button was my project this week and with the help of Chris Fisher, we got it created yesterday. With that said, that is not the purpose of this post tonight. I am here to share some new found knowledge and hopefully you will find it as useful as I did.

Now, when I sat out on this trek, I knew that it would not be an easy task, but it would be one to figure out. First off, for those of you that do not know what a "link to us" button is, it allows for someone to add your logo or banner to their page for a better looking product than just plain text.

The example that I wanted to accomplish for our website is just below.

Getting the done was easy, I could do it one of 2 ways. The first would be to load the picture in a post and then hyperlink the address that I wanted the page to jump to and set it to open another page. But, since I am wanting to learn more and more about writing code, I took the code above and copied it into word. Once the code was there, I just changed it up to be what I wanted to make mine work. See the example below.

That might have been the easiest of all to write. Now, I had to figure out how they got the box in there and that is when I came across the way to make it happen. The code to create the form that you need is here.

Now, just so you know it is not that simple. Here is what I had to do. I first went into our editor and chose the page that I wanted this on. While in text phase I enter both the words that I wanted, the picture that I wanted and the code to be copied to create the button. Once all of this was entered under what most of you know as "wysiwyg", I then went into HTML. I had to clean up all code that was around my perferred code and replace it with the first portion of the code on the opening and then the last portion at the end to close it.

Now, with that all said, if you need any help, please feel free to contact me and I will walk you through it. Push come to shove, you can pay me to do it for you. LOL.

Your work with this button has greatly improved the look of the site. It is very generous of you to share what has been an exhaustive, though productive, effort with the AR community.

Rihc, if we do not share the knowledge that we learn, then we can not grow. I guess I have always operated under the guidelines of learn something new and teach it to at least 2 people.

Danny, I had not considered applying this idea for my site. Thinking about it, I think this does create a professional look while helping to build traffic. I imagine that I should attempt creating such a button. Thanks for the lesson. Lately, I have been busy working on my site too. However, I decided to go ridicolous: I added a forum that I am still developing, and I will be adding a survey. You got to have fun with it all.
