Our professional attitude and behavior is just as important online as it is when speaking face to face with others and while dealing with your peers, clients, consumers. No matter where we are and what we are doing it's how we carry ourselves that will determine how others perceive us.

Granted, no two people think alike but there is a fine line between assumptions and getting the facts and an even finer line being an actor on stage and just being plain real.

After writting many posts about interacting and blogging respectfully while holding ourselves to higher standards and well, just being......good human beings I went through many old posts and the following paragraphs seemed to bring out reminders for me if one of these give you a little inspiration or positive affirmation...then it was all well worth it.

Bottom line....there is one thing I have control over.....MYSELF.

  • You just got to wonder about the credibility and authority of a blog. We write about our products and services and tie our reputation to them.  I don't know about you but my reputation IS my most valuable asset as a Real Estate Professional.
  • We have a more professional network on ActiveRain specifically for the Real Estate Industry and the reason to lead me back here time and again. I love this network and really admire the professional attitudes we have online.
  • I learned early on that how I respect myself will portray in my written words. It became evident Blogging Courteouslythat worrying about others and what they're doing had no bearing on the way I wrote and did what I needed to do for me. I left all the drama and trauma behind a while ago...and my writing became more profound and has brought me more contacts than I could have ever imagined.
  • We make mistakes and admitting them and correcting them is the key to our success. We learn from them and we grow. AND...there is a difference between knowing what we are doing...and consciously making that choice to do what is right/wrong.... rather than making an honest mistake.
  • Real Estate has brought me the satisfaction that everyone craves and for that "gotta be happy with the job we have or it won't work" theory. Without that then a job is just a job and nothing more or less.
  • Each and every member will make their own Success in Blogging if they are willing to be consistent, work hard, put a lot of thought, a lot of effort and keep it real in their writing. I interact with the public, clients and our peers every single day in real life and real life here. I have learned that it becomes a meeting of the minds and it's the respect we have for each other on ActiveRain that makes us all successful with our interactions with others as well as our business.
  • What we write here is a reflection on who we are as well as our professional attitude in our industry.  It's in cyberspace forever baby! No matter if you delete it...there are remnants and you can't take back the stuff in black and white.
  • Success in Real Estate can be measured in many ways and for me it's mostly about how I interact with others because I believe our industry is about just that. INTERACTING WITH OTHERS.
  • Blogging for business and bonding with peers...that's what all this means to me in a nutshell. With time, effort and a continuous willingness to learn...ActiveRain will help you with your business as well as interacting with others in a positive manner online.
  • In this writers mind there is one thing I know to be true. This blogging platform was given to me (to us) for free...to utilize respectfully in giving industry related information and material to others, inform the public, keep up to date with nationwide markets, receive some feedback, network with our peers (and hey...maybe a referral here and there) and the most rewarding (for me) the peers that became friends along the way.  Bonding in business.

The only person that has control over me.... is me..... and it's all in the manner of how I handle the situation. I choose to "lead by example" for my community of real estate professionals ....and offer a helping hand.

**MY LEGACY IS ALL ABOUT THE QUALITY OF RELATIONSHIPS I HAVE WITH OTHERS

 And.....   Without that quality, tell me.....what is a Professional worth?**

~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay...I don't mean to be so vain...but I've written some profound things here.
At least in my own mind LOL!
Sallie very well put!  I agree that we need to write our posts respecting our colleagues as well as our clients.  Our comments should also reflect that respect, the entire world has access to our blogs, so this is important.  I have tried to be respectful in both my blogs and my comments, there have been times that I have written something, and then just cleared it an not written anything because I didn't feel that I was able to write anything respectful.  Great post, thank you for putting into words why we need to be respectful!
Are you saying you're a legend in your own mind Sally? LOL...Only kidding!
I must say I agree 100% with you...too bad so many people don't take the time to think/cool down/re-read before they click the post it button.  It does live forever out there...and hiding behind a key board while typing nasty stuff really is not enough insulation. It catches up to you after awhile.
Sally I agree we need to be very careful of how we come across in our blogs and even our comments.  We are very much in the public eye when we open ourselves up the the internet, and we never know who is ready what we write.
Hi Sally,
You can tell a lot about a person by how they blog.  That is one of the reasons I like reading a variety of blogs.
You can really see who is respectful and caring.  You always are.
All the best!
Sally, I always love your posts and pictures.  The picture above is amazing.  Where do you find them?  Anyway, I have read posts of people ranting about other AR colleagues and have thought to myself, "I hope I don't have a problem like that".  I try to respect others opinions and if I don't have anything nice to say then I just don't see why I need to write it.  However, I have had one post that I have been biting my tongue.  I just laugh it off, but I find it irritating that one person tries to bully others on my post.  I've had a person email me secretly to give me his opinion because he didn't want to hear anything from this bully.  I understand if you have your opinions but it comes down to disrespect after awhile.  This one person should watch his step because he comes off as angry with the world and I don't think that works well with AR.  We all are here, yes to voice our opinions, but also to help one another, inspire one another, and learn from one another.  This is a business of building relationships and we need to keep a good attitude.
HI SALLY!  Very profound!  I couldn't agree with you more.  I'm not perfect, but I try to portray it through my writing!!  At times, I'm not always at my best, but when I write, something takes over me & Voila...everything is A O K!!!!
Thanks for sharing this insightful post!
Sally, thanks for summarizing blogging and what it could mean to us if we stick with it. From one Sally to another...if you aren't fun to "play with"...or don't sound like you would be....not just consumers...but agents will shy away from listings as well...just like you can't buy AR...(at least for a little longer) you can't buy a reputation....wonder if there was a REPUTATION STORE how many agents would be standing in line and how many believe theirs is just wonderful.
Good Morning and I know from our recent conversation that you are not up to feeling like your self as yet but just a comment to tell again how much your positive attitude about being a professional makes so much difference to your readers ( myself included). Even when not at your total best you inspire and encourage and enable others to see the right path to follow in their lives and it is nice sometimes to just take a moment and share that with the author. You are a genuine treasure and all are recognizing it. While many are busy and fail sometimes to breath and appreciate the new day, you always have always taken the time for that and then to share it. Solid Gold!
Sally Jo, while I rather enjoyed the old days of initial "banter", in a large part due to your influence this place has evolved into a goldmine of great info from competent real estate people, minus the initial tussles. Sally, I couldn't agree more with every word you wrote!  I was just with clients all week who chose me because of my blog and we shared a lot about why they chose me over other bloggers.  It was VERY interesting to hear from a savvy consumer about our cherished blogging.  It reminded me to thing that every word I write will be read by my favorite people in the world, my friends on AR, my loved ones (sometimes:) and my clients.
Hi Sally,
Great blog!  As a newbie to blogging and Active Rain, you have set a very high standard to follow.  As a 35 year veteran Realtor, I full heartedly agree that reputation is a primary asset.    In my own experience, it is also keeping your word.  Otherwise "under promise and over perform", but "do what you say you will do".
Have a wonderful weekend!
Woo Hoo, One of the your quotes here " if they are willing to be consistent, work hard, put a lot of thought, a lot of effort and keep it real in their writing" is a superb statement about what all of our goals should be here in our network. Experience helps a bit but to me it really is about attitude and how we think about things. Your statement is now my motto, so pardon me for stealing your words but it makes such a difference.
