Charlotte NC CARMEL Park- What is My Child's 2008-2009 School Assignment?

Teamwork in Education

Charlotte NC CARMEL PARK What is My Child's 2008 - 2009 School Assignment?  Charlotte NC schools offer superior educational opportunities in each developmental level.  Education, one of the fundamental aspects the imparting of culture from generation to generation, facilitates the realization of self-potential and the latent talents of an individual. With the application of theoretical and applied research relating to teaching and learning, education draws on a wide variety of disciplines such as psychology, philosophy, math, science, linguistics, economics and sociology, among many others.

Public school information at the CMS (Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools) site, has a thorough list of elementary, middle and high schools with rankings, demographics, and individual school websites.

Schools are all within close proximity to Carmel Park.  The public schools to which Carmel Park children are assigned  for the 2008 - 2009 school year are as follows: (see below for private school and home school information):

Sharon School is best described by the words on the banner that flies in the school's lobby, “North Carolina Honor School of Excellence”.    This designation, indicating school performance above 90% and all sub-groups of students making goals, was accomplished by attaining a status of “high growth” for two straight years.   But as in baseball, where last season is history, the staff at Sharon School is focused on the present and their vision for the future.

Sharon School's academic program continues to be refined with special emphasis on math and science.  Sharon is reporting testing scores considerably ahead of last year’s pace in mathematics.   Science instruction has similarly been extended, with lab periods for every class now being offered on a weekly basis.   This hands-on experience with their Science Curriculum Associate and the children’s classroom teacher is supplemented by a long-term research project in their Science Exploratorium over a period of several weeks during the year.  Tremendous enthusiasm abounds about Sharon School's science program and they're looking to continued excellence in this department. Literacy and writing instruction continues to reflect higher levels of instruction as well.   Last year’s EOG (end of grade) score of  98.9% at or above grade level!

Instruction and programming with the use of Multiple Intelligences as developed by Dr. Howard Gardner, has also been implemented at Sharon School.  Culminating 'MI Events' bring learning to life through application, exploration, and performance.  Several of these events are scheduled for all grade levels throughout the year.

Classroom teachers bring a wealth of new ideas to strengthen an already highly ranked neighborhood school.  With a host of teachers who hold graduate degeees,  National Board Certifications, and with professional development a high priority, Sharon's staff continues to demonstrate that they are truly a professional learning community.  This year's focus, developing greater skill in building collective efficacy, has been supported by the generosiy of the PTSA in both monetary donations and hundreds of volunteer hours.

The future that awaits Sharon's students will require a technological sophistication which is barely imaginable!  The staff, parents and students remain committed to preserving the warmth and spirit of Sharon that is so apparent to everyone who enters the building.

Debe, as a former educator and school administrator I enjoyed reading your post.  I became a REALTOR after 30+ years as an educator/administrator in parochial, public, and community school environments.  Even though I love the work I do in Real Estate, my heart still remains in the education venue.  Great Job!

DEBE - This is an outstanding school report that should appeal to anyone looking to move into the area.  You consistently provide valuable information about the Charlotte area.  If I were looking to relocate, Charlotte would definitely be on my short list, and you would be my agent of choice!

Gary:  You are SO kind!  Thank you for stopping by and I do have fun with the colors, fonts & graphics but, I still have a TON of learning to do!!

Teresa:  I'm glad to know that you've been reading and thank you so much for commenting!  I use a free downloaded program called Nvu.  Google it, download it and get started!  You create it in WYSIWYG, then click on Source and it converts it to html.  Then you click on the html tab on Active Rain and copy and paste the Nvu html on and you're set!  It's SOOO easy!

And, NO WAY?  You went to McClintock & East?  My oldest went to McClintock for a year before we moved to the Carmel zone.

Don:  Thank you so much--I try!

Jon:  Thanks and it's interesting that you chose to leave that field for the one we're in!  Like me, you went from working LONG hours to working even LONGER hours!!  I have the utmost respect for the teaching profession.  After 18+ years of volunteering in the schools, I KNOW what teachers go through and, frankly, I don't blame you for leaving the profession.  Things are SO different than when we attended school and teachers have so many rules and regulations to deal with, nevermind the extremely demanding parents who are difficult to deal with!

Adam:  Thank you!  Charlotte SHOULD be #1 on your list--well, maybe a beautiful city in Hawaii could possibly rank #1!!  And, when you've narrowe it down to Charlotte, I would be happy to be your agent!!!

Hi Debe,

Awesome BLOG!!! It is great to see another realtor who understands that building an image online is so valuable.  I myself even after 30 plus years of experience would not have had a clue if it weren't for Keller William's technology training.  If you should ever be interested in finding out more about Keller Williams Realty, and the benefits we provide our Realtors (education, profit sharing, commission splits, culture etc.).  I would be more than happy to set aside time for more individuals like you.  Please contact me at 440.336.0612.  I wish you the best of luck with your career, and an awesome week.

Sincerely,

CJ Harrington
