I don't care what business you are in -- if you're not online, you're missing the boat. If you're not monitoring your web site, you're also missing the boat.
You can sign up for very inexpensive services that will return statistics to you. For example, the service I subscribe to will tell me any number of things, among them:
- Where my visitors originate -- from what city or state
- The ISP of my visitors
- Whether they are a first-time visitor or a return visitor
- If they are return visitors, the other pages and times they visited
- What kind of browser they use
- The search terms used to find my site
- The web pages these visitors came from
- The pages they visited
- How long they stayed
- The top web sites hits on my page and respective links
In short, you can get reports that tell you almost everything but the visitor's name and birth date.
One of the search critiera I find most useful is search terms. For example, many of my visitors came from the following searches:
- Sacramento real estate
- Sacramento real estate agent
- Lyon Realtors in Land Park
- Land Park real estate agent
- Elizabeth Weintraub in Sacramento
- Land Park Elizabeth Weintraub
I am astonished because I did not think I ranked very high for those terms, but I guess do.
