Are You Monitoring Your Web Site for Statistics?

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

search for elizabeth weintraub sacramento real estateI don't care what business you are in -- if you're not online, you're missing the boat. If you're not monitoring your web site, you're also missing the boat.

You can sign up for very inexpensive services that will return statistics to you. For example, the service I subscribe to will tell me any number of things, among them:

  • Where my visitors originate -- from what city or state
  • The ISP of my visitors
  • Whether they are a first-time visitor or a return visitor
  • If they are return visitors, the other pages and times they visited
  • What kind of browser they use
  • The search terms used to find my site
  • The web pages these visitors came from
  • The pages they visited
  • How long they stayed
  • The top web sites hits on my page and respective links

In short, you can get reports that tell you almost everything but the visitor's name and birth date.

One of the search critiera I find most useful is search terms. For example, many of my visitors came from the following searches:

  • Sacramento real estate
  • Sacramento real estate agent
  • Lyon Realtors in Land Park
  • Land Park real estate agent
  • Elizabeth Weintraub in Sacramento
  • Land Park Elizabeth Weintraub

I am astonished because I did not think I ranked very high for those terms, but I guess do.

I'm not very experienced with this.  How much does this information cost?  Is it a yearly or monthly fee?

Hi Debi: I subscribe to Sonic Eagle for $9.95 a month. There are probably cheaper companies out there, but I don't have time to research them. I can cancel the contract at any time, but it's been so useful to me that that thought hasn't crossed my mind. I mentioned this to Lyon's managing broker yesterday, but she said agents don't want to pay for anything. I'm like What? It costs 30 cents a day!

I check this out every night. Sometimes, if I think about it too long though it can creep me out. For instance, there's someone from UCdavis.edu who is repeatedly visiting my blog. I think that's odd and wonder if they are 1. an agent looking for material to copy, 2. stalking or 3 (and hopefully this is the case) getting ready to make a move to WA!

Good idea to watch what is going on.  We monitor hit counts on listings to see what was viewed and how many hits in any date range.  It helps to know what is going on.

Hi Colleen: Got your note, and you're welcome. Maybe you should consider marketing to doctors at UC Davis? I work with a lot of clients from there.

Hi C: you might want to consider monitoring them daily. :) Just a suggestion.

Hi Gary: I already posted in this link who I use. Feel free to call them or email.

Hi Robert: Once you know where your hits are coming from and from where, you can change your marketing. Altering just a little here and there is empowering.

Elizabeth, thanks. I had to read your "Comments." Sonic Eagle is owned by Pleasanton-CA based Marketlinx who built our MLS here in North Texas for NTREIS listings. If you have some web sites like broker web sites with their back office tools OR a third party company like Z57 these metrics are built in. If not, then you have a bolt on product like Sonic Eagle. Thanks for the info. Very valuable to me!

Hi Teri: At the moment, I am using Agent Achieve, which has a freebie traffic search built into it. However, those results aren't as specific nor as comprehensive as those provided by Sonic Eagle. So I pay for the stats.

Hi Gary: You're welcome and glad it was useful info. You just never know what you're going to read about on Active Rain.

Well Elizabeth, I'll check out the Sonic Eagle option. It sounds like you're getting a lot of feedback for pennies a day. ;-)

Hi Debi and Teri: Let me know what you think. I just love it. Plus, you can also check for identity, but it's not always traceable. Today I learned that somebody in Livermore spent 3 1/2 hours on my web site looking at homes in Midtown after doing a Google search for midtown sacramento real estate.

Hello Livermore <<waving>> call me. I can help you!!!!

I use Google Analytics that is part of my Google AdWords to track where my visitors are coming from.  It' can get downright obsessive to go to the site to see if there were new visitors, how long they stayed, how many pages they visited and where they were referred by.  I get as many Active Rain referral visits as I do google and direct visits.

Great post.  I have kept web statistics for over 10 years...it is vital to success.  My Atlanta real estate site receives over 800-900 unique visitors a day.  At our peak it was over 1300 a day.

I get my stats daily from my P2 website.  Invaluable info!  It has helped me refine meta information and keyword details.  People who don't have this kind of information available to them are shooying in the dark.

Hi Jim: Those are decent stats, especially for an agent web site. Congratulations on your success. I don't talk about what I get because it's crazy. :)

Hi Kathy: Yes, precisely. There's no sense in wondering what your site is doing when you can look at it, tweak it, refine it, so you continue to get more hits.

I would like agent achieve to integrate with google analytics and hittail (both are free).  Analytics and hittail do slightly different things but work similar to the paid stats on agent achieve.  I'm not paying for the stats on my Lyon site as it is not my primary website.
