How do you sign your letters, memos, emails, AR signature etc. and what does it SAY about you?

A. "Sincerely?

Do you really mean it...or is it what you were taught in grammar school?

B. "Thanks so much?'

Again, do you mean it. Do you really have reason to THANK the individual you are writing to, or does that just come out of habit?

C. "Love"

Hopefully no one is using this in the business world...or perhaps you are new to business and still in high school?

D. "Best regards"

Ok, now we re talking!

E.  Fill in the blank.

Let us hear what your best parting lines are. Do you have a regular? Does it vary person by person? What does it say about you?

Beth ~ I like to use one of two sign-offs:  Best regards -- or All the best.  Either one works in a business setting and conveys what I really feel -- I wish the very best for my clients, colleagues, vendors, etc.  Sometimes if it's appropriate I sign off with "cheers!" which is a carryover from my years of living in Ireland and is very typically used there and in England.

Hi Maureen!

Too funny...I typcially use "All the best".  I didn't put it in because I ALWAYS use it.

All the best (oops! I did it again!)

I'm all over the board. Sometimes "cordially," sometimes, "all the best," and sometimes "It's a good life!" It does vary by person and context for me.

I would say that 99.9% of my business communication is by email. I don't use any of the above.

I guess its because I feel that all of those are somewhat generic, bordering on fake. One of my colleagues uses 'warmest regards' and I find that to be even more fake. (shhh don't tell anyone I said that) I simply end my emails with a dash and my first name. In my mind, I want them to know that the email is coming from me (not canned) and that I thought about the reply. Right under that is a professional signature that connects to my social networks. So it looks like this:

Good post - I think a lot of people are on autopilot on this one.

"Best regards" and "All the best" are my favorites too. Sometimes I shorten to "Best" to sound a little less formal.  Or you can make it a little more chummy with "Warm regards". I like to mix it up.

Hi Trey, I tend to do this as well...depending on the person.  Big fan of warm regards to.

Beth ~ Good question.  I probably use all of the above. : )  I use "Sincerely" when I am sending a letter or e-mail to someone for the first time.  Subsequent letters or e-mails I use either "Thank you" or "Best Regards" depending on what the letter/e-mail says.  I only use "Thank you" if I am actually thanking someone for something.

First communication-  I wish you much succes this year (if it is a Realtor enquiring regarding my services)

I wish you much success on the sale of your property (if it is the quote for a staging job to a client)

Cheers or talk to you soon- after an initial email communication

It depends on who I'm communicating with and how much communication we've had. Generally I use Cheers!, Kind Regards, Best Regards, Warm Regards. More formal if we're new to one another and a bit more casual once we've been emailing/talking for a while.

Sincere Thanks etc. I use sincerely as well as I believe I'm a sincere person and I only use it if I truly mean it. ;)

Hi Cheryl, intersting that you often use nothing. I typically feel like I need to end with something that explains the tone of my email/letter/etc. I've also used "Cheers!" when it is a very light airy message I'm sending.

Thanks Bobby. I agree, mixing it up is the way to go.

Hi Kathy, makes perfect sense!

I also wondered if people out there use the same ending line over and over for recognition which might be a smart thing to. I know one fellow AR'er who uses "Have a cup of java on me" and I remember his line, but honestly can't say I remember his name - ha!  If you are reading this by chance...please don't take offense to that. :)

Hi Kathy,  I just recently starting signing off with warmest regards.  I had someone write that to me and liked the way it sounded.  So I've taken it and use it all the time now.

Hi Michelle, I like Warm regards as well....don't laugh...but use it especially in the winter.

Hi Pete, so plain old:

"Best,

Pete"

For some reason if I used that I feel like it seems I missed a word :)

 Beth I hear you calling....

While it would be totally cool - rock hands are out for business ;-) but I like to sign off with warm regards or best regards for most business replies.
