"Running with Scissors"

My daughter is in theater and enjoys artsy films.  She has introduced me to many indie movies that I might not have ever known about.  Most of the time, I appreciate her talent for picking fantastic flicks.  Since, Chris, my husband, is playing in an out-of-state racquet ball tournament this weekend,  Kate and I vegged out in front of the television and watched "Running With Scissors".

During the movie, I kept repeating, "this is beyond creative. How could anyone think these things up?"  Then Kate gave me a quick synopsis to shut me up.  The movie is based on a real life story..."and you know Mom, truth is stranger than fiction".

Nominated for Golden Globe and others.  The author, Augusten Burroughs , should be given an award for surviving his childhood.

I won't go into any more detail about the movie, I dont' want to give anything away.  But, since I am a real estate professional there was a line in the movie that made me laugh out loud.

One of the characters  proudly showed off a room attached to his office, his

       "MASTERBATORIUM"

After that was said, I was totally in shock.  Not because I am prude, but because I thought to myself,

"How would you sell the place and put that in the MLS remarks".

OK, just now for schnitz and giggles I googled "the word"...good grief, it is real!!  It shows up on urbandictionary.com.  I am not supplying a link.

      I guess I really am a prude.

Rhonda - I haven't seen the movie yet, but I did read the book.  I expected a humorous look at an unusual childhood.  Wow.  I was wrong.  His life disturbed me.  But it was a good read.

Dear Don,   Thank you for commenting.  I don't know if I dare read the book. It is going to take me a while to recover from the movie.  Augusten's book made Carrie Fischer's Postcards from The Edge, look like a walk in the park!

Thank you again for commenting.

Rhonda - I guess then the movie follows the book pretty closely, as when I finished the book, I don't know if I was in awe or in shock.  It was not at all what I had expected, and it was a lot to take in.  I'll have to watch for the movie on cable...

Don...You watch the movie.  I'll read the book. Let's see what we think!

I don't suggest anyone get "Running on Scissors" as a book on tape and play it in your car... you will drive off the road!

:)

Have you seen Pan's Labrynith, yet?  Good movie.

Too, too funny.  I needed a good laugh tonight!

No, I haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth yet.  With three kids, we tend to wait until movies are shown on Cable.
