 Rotten Neighbor

As a real estate agent, this could be a GREAT TOOL as a buyer's agent in identifying Bad Neighbors for your client.  Might show you go the "Extra Mile" in looking out for them.  All you do is Register FREE and look up an address or street, and make sure your browser setting is set for "Trusted Site" and then double click on the specific house that is good or bad and when the red icon appears, click on it to post your message.  A blog is started.

All that is needed is the public to know about this site so that neighbors can start identifying the bad apples in a subdivision.  It also shows all the Sex Offenders too.

David,

This could be a potential can of worms. If the customers go there that's their business. I don't think we should even mention it. Could be a liability attached.

David, the last time I checked the site for Washington, DC, there was a big fat bad neighbor thing at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave - that would be the White House!  There's no way for the people who manage the site to double check whether these guys are really bad neighbors or not.  I'd go with Steve!

Morning David,

As I see it, there are great risks involved providing information of this type. Best one would check the legality before sharing.

Well, I'm not advocating "me" making post to the neighbor.  It's a public site and a neighbor and post pictures or video of actual misdeeds.  I saw one post where a neighbor was throwing dog poop on another neighbors front porch.  Obviously he had an ax to grind but I sure wouldn't want to live next door to the guy.

I had the "neighbor from hell" living across the street from me about 8 months ago that had 20+ cars in front of his house even parked in the grass that I certainly would have posted some pictures of that.

Hi David. Cool site.  Thanks for sharing the great tip! Keep them coming.

David....I just went to this site, found 2 sex offenders living not more than 2 blocks from me, and showed my 9 year-old daughter the pictures of them & had a conversation with her about who these people are and how to avoid them.  That in and of itself is a great reason for telling people about this site, and I REALLY appreciate you passing on the info.

As for telling your buyers about this site, it is a tricky question: it could very well unnecessarily blow a deal (ie. your clients were about to buy, looked at this website, then decided not to...just because two silly neighbors have a grudge against eachother) OR it could greatly endear your clients to you (ie. they were looking at 3 or 4 possible houses, and you helped them narrow down the field with info gleaned from this website).

My personal opinion says take it on a case-by-case basis, but nonetheless, this is a VERY neat website, and thanks for passing on the info!

Peter...I whole heartedly agree with you...it could be a double-edged sword.  I too like the sex offender ID's because it's easier to visually see and spot a "change" in what you remember.  I have 3 not to far from me.  I spotted one on the same street as a friend of mine and now I'm worried if I should tell him or not....I'm leaning towards telling him though.

I did a blog post on this a while back.. it didn't fair so well in the active rain community for various reasons.

In any case, it is a wild website!

Why doesn't someone make a "good neighbor" site - why do we always have to focus on the bad news?  Everyone has a "neighbor from hell".

Georgina...it IS also for "Positive" comments.  It says in there both positive and negative, but you know how people are.  They want to know more about who the crazy is next door than the normal.

David, thanks for the info. I agree with Georgina that there should be a wonderful neighbor website, as well.

Matthew...I think that site is called "Localism".

I always tell my buyers...neighbors come and go, buy the house that works for you in a neighborhood that has good resale.
