If you have been in or around Thurston County the last couple of years you would have to almost be blind to not see the growth and development of the area. There is building everywhere, literally thousands of new homes. Many people may ask themselves, "why are so many people moving to the area?" The answer is Seatlle. The Seattle area is growing so expensive that the Seattle residents are beginning to move south to find affordable housing. So this means they first hit the Pierce County areas which made thier housing prices begin to rise rapidly which also sent Pierce County residents heading toward Thurston County for affordable housing. So now you have some King County and a bunch of Pierce County residents scrambling for homes in Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater (Yelm to an extent) thus creating a large demand for affordable housing creating a great opportunity for investment. And investment does not have to mean the person who owns multiple homes or a flipper, for the most part I am talking about the average home owner, the home owner who is able to buy a home today for say $250k and sell in two years for over $300k. Thats a great investment and that does not even take into account all of the tax advantages of course. Washington's economy is great right now and this will most likely continue to fuel the housing market here quite strongly for quite some time.
On the other side Thurston County is a great place to live, I was born here and still enjoy living here now. There are so many things to do, crime is low, and schools are good. There are a ton of lakes in the area with somthing for everyone from swimming, fishing, to water sports. There are also several great rivers for those avid salmon/steelhead/sturgeon fisherman. Something that I find to be extremely interesting and enlightening is when there is a state political issue that is important to me I can easily attend state house or senate meetings in Olympia and sometimes in support or against certain issues being put to legislaion. For those of you who like who can be passionate about issues this is a wonderful way to make your voice heard and make a difference. Here in Thurston County we also have access to exceptional health care, our hospital Providence St. Peters is ranked in the top 1% of all hospitals in the COUNTRY!
Here in Thurston County your options for housing are immense, we have everything! All withing ten minutes of the freeway (many times within 5) you can live any dozens of lake front homes, wonderful new home communities, 5+ acre farm homes, downtown urban homes, condos, as well as luxury estates. There is no other place I have ever lived that has the diversity of housing in such an area making Thurston County so wonderful if you work in Thurston County or if you are a commuter.
