A new Detroit Free Press-Local 4 poll shows that Governor Jennifer Granholm's proposed 2% tax on services has only meager support.  Only 28% of those polled support the proposed new tax.  Even fewer people, 14%, support a 25% increase in the state income tax.  However, a majority of those polled did support an increase in the sin tax on cigarettes and alcohol, along with a 5% tax on estates of over $2 million.

Fortunately, it appears as though the Governor's proposed service tax may be dead on arrival.  Another tax increase on the state's already overburdened taxpayers will surely drive even more residents and jobs from our state.

Stefan-  This will be an interesting battle between industry and "the people", service related business and those that do primarily manufacturing, and Republican v. Democrat.  Tighten your seat belt and prepare for the ride.  It will be interesting to see how this one will end.
