Just before the Great Depression, the Faust Hotel was built near the center of town to provide comfort to visitors. The owner, Walter Faust, moved his family into the grand structure, then passed away in 1933. But hotel staff report he and other spirits often can be spotted or heard, sometimes using the antique glass elevator. While someone can be seen entering, no one seems to arrive. Shortly after the first World War, the city of New Braunfels Texas sought to include a world-class hotel among its attractions for Texas visitors. Walter Faust Sr. one of New Braunfels' business leaders, first opened the doors to this hotel - originally called the The Traveler's Hotel - in 1929.
The Traveler's Hotel remained open, mainly due to the determination of Walter Faust Sr.. The hotel was renamed the Faust Hotel in 1936, just prior to the second World War.
Throughout several renovations, extreme care has been taken to preserve the hotel's original beauty. In February of 1985, the Faust Hotel hosted a celbration to dedicate its recently acquired Texas Historic Landmark Plaque and an application for placement on the National Register of Historic Places has been approved on state level and forwarded to Washington, D.C..
Today the property shows its age, but also offers endless charm to guests. Though renovated, the hotel has maintained the decor and panache of the 1930s. Within the hotel visitors can find finely crafted antique furniture, a beautiful mirrored elevator, artwork from the period, an antique grand piano, and even a vintage microbrewery. The reknowned Texas hospitality has remained a staple of the hotel's attraction as well. The antique furnishings are a real treasure Each room is decorated with appropriately for that era.
This is a grand hotel Located in the downtown area of New Braunfels, wonderful antique shops, the Gazebo which is another blog in itself and the court house are just amongst some of the things to see and do. Right across the street is a wonderful old bakery with fantastic baked goods.
The hotel offers a floor for executive suites and a floor for honeymoon suites.

Deb - Love your cartoon, it's great. Yes, many many stories about the old Menger Hotel in San Antonio. I didn't realize how many hotels in Texas have such stories. Woooooooo I'm scared.
CARL, It sounds like they are friendly ghost. Tomorrow evening we are taking a ghost tour of Old Town Spring. There will be about 15 of us taking the tour. It should be fun. A few years ago I would have told you I didn't believe in ghost but then I had a ghostly experience and my opinion on that TOTALLY changed.
Marchel - You were commenting on my blog the same time I was commenting on your Christmas in July blog. This must be the time of year when we are thinking about Ghost. My Ghost Blog on The Faust and your Ghost Tour coming up and Deb talking about the Menger Hotel Ghost. This isn't even Hallowwen.
Dale - Thanks for finding Casper The Friendly Ghost Photo. You have outdone yourself again.
The Faust Hotel is a neat old hotel. We went to a Valentin'e Dinner a couple year's back, I would rather stay in this one rather then a new modern hotel. Lots of history & "ghost" in this one.
Dale - Sounds like you have been blogging along. I worked outside today so just checking AR for a few minutes. I'll have to get over to check out your new blogs.
Shirley: It is right down town not to far from the courthouse and gazebo. Neglein's Bakery is across the street. Come at Christmas and enjoy all the lights and festivities, it is really beautiful. A good antique store is the Red Rooster by the railroad tracks. All within walking distance. Lots of history in New Braunfels, much like San Antonio, TX.
Carl, Thanks for the Ghost Post, we have had our share of ghost experiences. Get Ricki to tell you one she had at our home in North Texas. You know Casper's favorite colors are red, white & Boo.
Carl, I love reading about ghost stories. Thanks for posting this blog. I got intrigued with ghosts after I saw one. No, I'm not nuts. I'll have to share it some time.
Ricki: Thanks for stopping to comment. I had Nagleine's bake Jeff & Lea's wedding cake years ago and it was great. We like to stop in and have somethig sweet whenever we play tourist and stroll along the downtown area. There are also some very old church's in N.B. (I should have written about one of those church's when we had the contest). It's ashame we don't play tourist more often; seems not enough hours to get everything done.
Don: I'll try to remember to ask Ricki about your Ghost experiences when you lived in North Texas. I think you told me the other day to remind you about something the other day and I already forgot what it was. (ha)
Carl, Yes I did!! I was living at home with my parents at the time (years ago) The home was built in 1802 and it had some interesting visitors should I say. I will blog about this at some time.. just no time today.
Is there a good group to post a ghost story to, so I know you will be able to read it?
Valerie - The Texas Group or Lone Star Group or my own group Hill Country Inspector will get'er done. Everyone loves to read about ghost or spirit stories. Don't wait too long before you write your blog; I'm anxious to read.
Carl.. I've added Lone Star to my group list. I will get the *ghost* story out ASAP. This week is hectic.. I'm leaving on vacation (camping) with my two sons... so much to do, and so little time.
Carl, well, I got here late but finally made it. I love Ghost Stories. Guess I'll have to write about The Menger Hotel and it's ghosts and the few nights I stayed there a couple years ago. :)
Judi - Did you see some ghost? Did you get the creepy crawlies? Woooooo! I'm scared. I'll be waiting for your blog about the Menger Hotel. Is that the hotel that has good Mango Ice Cream? It's one of those down town. I inspected one of them a few years back when they were doing some remodel projects. It's always fun to stay in one of those old hotels. You can just feel the history and ghost (he, he).
That fountain picture is pretty creepy looking. And is that a car INSIDE the hotel? Great job on this post. I'm going to Feature it in the Things to Do/Places to Visit group.
The Faust Hotel really is a neat hotel right in the heart of New Braunfels, TX. Also within walking distance of Schlitterbahn which is the larges waterpark in the US. Schlitterbahn brings in allot of tourist during the summer months and also for folks that like to tube the Guadalupe River which is also a big hit. They really enjoy staying at the Faust.
Sassy - Thanks for stopping. I see you are from Colorado Springs and new to Active Rain. Welcome and it is a pleasure that you stopped. Your part of the country is really beautiful. We will come visit there and you come visit here. Right now it is very hot here and I would think cooler in your part of the country.
If you ever need anything or have a question let us know.
there is a show on TV that talks about haunted places in the US. I stumbled across it when they were talking aobut a hotel in Texas. Can't quite remeber what the name was, but the pics look similar.
There are several in Texas that have a similar background with stories much like The Faust in New Braunfels. There is one in San Antonio by the name of Menger Hotel that has some stories of people's experiences. Also a place in San Antonio along a railroad track with some ghostly experiences. These stories have been around for a number of years so may just be true?????
