For those who don't know the British Open is being played this week in Southport England at the Royal Birkdale golf course.  It is the first major to be played without Tiger Woods since 1996.  Many felt this would have taken away from any excitement or drama that the Open had to offer.  Just the opposite is true.  Rocco Mediate, from US Open fame, is only two strokes off the lead of Greg Norman.  Wait a minute!  This isn't 1988 this is 2008 and a 53 year old Norman at the lead after 36 holes in the Open.  Being married to Chris Evert, yes that Chris Evert, must have really turned back the clock for him.  Talk about drama!  Maybe the English are right when they say "If Tigers in the event we turn it off because we know the outcome."  Now I think Tiger has done so much for the sport of golf and is so dominant that he is great to watch, but I am going to enjoy the story lines while he is out and have fun with the Tiger less tour.

Hi Ted.  Greg Norman is  class player and Rocco Mediate had a great showing in the US Open.  Tiger is the greatest player I've seen in my lifetime but I was rooting for Rocco... there's something about an underdog that is appealing.  Other more formidable players held leads going into the final rounds only to have Tiger overtake them and win the event.  Rocco took him to the limit... and he did have a chance to win.  Rocco certainly has to be the golf story of the year.

I think you're right.  During the time Tiger is out of the competition others will have a chance to win and it should make interesting headlines.  And, of course, the "Shark's" performance has been amazing!  Chalk one up for us "old guys."

I know one thing Ted, Chrissy is keeping the old man limber. Did you see him hit that shot out of the Bunker on 16?
