As I was stuck in traffic this morning, Teresa Boardman and I were exchanging stories on what we do when we are waiting. I happen to use Twitter more often then not.

"I remember the time I fell asleep in my car and my clients came and pounded on the window," said Tersea Boardman. Teresa also went on to tell me that once, for a perpetually late agent she told her that the meeting was at 10:00 when it was really set for 10:30. It worked!

So the question remains. What are your stories of waiting for late clients? Tell us, tell all! Leave your comments here on this post or use Twitter with a #waitingreagents Hashtag. Happy Friday everyone!

I will usually take some extra paperwork with me that I can catch up on or I have tucked away in the back of my van a crossword work book. THis helps pass the time and it still looks like I am busy while waiting

Hi Matthew,

My laptop has an air card, so I reply to emails and catch up with other clients.  It is also a good time to return calls.

I usually just make phone calls to pass the time.

I have found that clients usually fall into one of four categories:

15 minutes earlier than the set time.

Right on time, within a couple of minutes either way.

15 minutes later than the set time.

Have sudden emergencies & can't make the appointment.

So... Asking them right up front what their "timing style" is, when you set an appointment, sometimes can lessen the wait.

I am always behind on returning calls and e-mails, so with my PDA I take advantage of the time to do both!

I'll read, sleep, or check my voice mail... all of which leads to sleep... until you get the window knock that could give you a heart attack.

I check email from my phone, check the latest listings or add new tasks to my "to-do" list.

I always have a book to read just in case. But I too have lied about what time the first showing is so if they are running late (and they usually are), we are on time or just a tad early.

I agree with Vickies comment, I take a book with me just in case.   Being late is just a matter of "people will be people"  Not everyone works by your ethics.  My philosophy is to always be 15 minutes early, or I am late. But that is just me.  I had an agent that could not get to any of our meetings on time.  And she always had some sort of excuse.  She would show up 30 minutes into the meeting and interupt the whole process.  What we did was lock the door one day, and we did not open it again until we were finsished with the meeting.  She was never late again.  She was upset that we would not let her in, but it fixed the problem.
