Though the title may be a bit over the top, there is a funny and often heard saying that everything tastes good deep fried! While I will take the word of the more adventurous epicureans, I do enjoy the occasional evening filled with artery clogging deep fried veggies! It may seem a bit ironic that I would slice up some of my wonderful organic veggies and drop them in boiling oil! Ironic, but tasty!

There really isn't much of a recipe! If you check out the following picture you will see just how easy this is!

There are of course the fresh veggies! In the picture you can see green tomatoes, a variety of peppers, and zucchini. I also deep fried squash and okra. Before I proceed, you can marinade the veggies in whatever spices you choose. If you use a dry spice and liquid combination, or just a liquid marinade, I would recommend keeping the veggies refrigerated while marinading for about 20 minutes! FYI, I did not use a marinade and the fresh taste of the veggies was incredible. Simply whip several eggs (unfortunately my chickens won't be producing until October at the earliest) with a little water or milk in a bowl. In a second, shallow bowl, add flour; you can add dry spices to the flour as well. Heat your oil! I know my oil is ready (I don't have a temperature gage on my fryer) when a drop of water makes the oil sizzle and pop. Coat the veggies with the egg mixture, being sure to let the excess mixture run back into the bowl. *TIP: If you used a liquid marinade, do not rinse it off before dipping the veggies into the egg mixture.* Then coat the veggie with the flour by dragging it through the shallow bowl containing the flour. You should prepare several of your veggies to go in the fryer at one time. Quickly place the prepared veggies into the fryer using tongs. *To Avoid Being Splashed With HOT OIL, Be careful not to drop them in the hot oil!* When the breading turns to whatever color of brown suits your taste, simply remove the veggies from the oil with the tongs. Place them on a platter or plate that is lined with several paper towels to help remove the excess oil. Serve with your favorite dipping sauces, blue cheese dressing, ranch dressing, soy sauce, thai peanut sauce, etc. I hope you enjoy a little deep fried southern goodness!

Rich, yum... sounds good. Did these come out of your garden?

LOL LOL LOL

The Southener in me is what made me click on this post.  That does sound yummy.  I personally don't do much frying because I don't like getting popped by the grease.

Was just at the beach and saw a stand that battered and deep everything including twinkies, oreos, and snickers bars.  I felt like a heart attack just looking at it.

Bill - I have seen some of the more adventuresome eaters on TV deep fry grass hoppers and other things you would never imagine. In the south we use grasshoppers and other insects as bait to fish with (then we deep fry the fish) but we don't eat the bait.

Mitchell - Fried veggies are awesome! Fried catfish and chicken is a big deal in the south tool!

Karen - Sorry, I am a vegetarian so no turkey recipe! HERE is a link to the food Network's Recipe's for fried turkey!

Duane - Yep! They all came right out of my garden!

DeAnna - Just the words "Deep Fry" have a pull on southerners! LOL! Glad you stopped by!

IMNJ - I haven't had deep fried Twinkies or snickers, but I did have deep fried oreos drizzled with dark chocolate at a high end restaurant in Orlando a couple of years ago. They were unbelievable! So rich, I could only eat two!

Rich ~ I can't eat zucchini unless it's fried.  I love fried zucchini! I also like to fry artichoke hearts (you can use the frozen ones).

Kathy - I love fried artichoke hearts! Used to get them regularly at a small restaurant called Island Cow on Sanibel Island, Florida!

Joan - Was very tasty! Served as appetizers for about 10 that night!

Rich, Have you tried frying zucchini flowers? Use the same method. Put a small piece of Mozzarella cheese inside the bloom and a dab of anchovie then deep fry them. You'll enjoy it I promise!

Georgina - I am very happy with how the garden has grown! <<<smile>>> And yes a little spicy mustard is awesome as well!

Andy - A few days ago, I actually hollowed out some of my jalapenos, filled them with cream cheese, used the egg wash and bread crumbs instead of flour and they came out great! Perfect for football! I can't wait for the new season! And I will be checking back!

Connie - Now that does sound good (no anchovies for me though, I am a vegetarian)! My brother suggested making a soup with some of the squash blossoms!

I like deep fried sweet potatoes. I don't usually deep fry so I don't get them very often.

Julie - That is honestly the only way I'll eat sweet potatoes! I have some planted but they are not the veggie of choice for me.
