Just the other day, a package arrived in the mail from Danville, California.  The company line in the return address was plain and simple:

GOOGLE

What was this behemoth of the internet sending me in a package?  I certainly hadn't ordered anything.

Maybe it was some Google Juice?  Pretty close, actually.

First there was a letter.

    "Dear Brian A Block,

Since you began advertising with Google Adwords six years ago, you've played a key role in our
success and we hope we have in yours.

As a sign of our appreciation, we'd like you to have a few gifts: a limited-edition gourmet cookbook
full of recipes created by Google's talented chefs, a chef's apron you can wear in your own kitchen, and
a collection of advanced strategies and tips to help you achieve even more with AdWords."

Here's some photos of my Google Gifts:

Here I am proudly sporting my new Google apron:

Brian sporting the Google apronThe cookbook contains an interesting assortment of recipes ranging from Crab Cakes with Cajun Remoulade to Cheeky Monkey Mudslide Cookies.

Over the years, I've spent thousands of dollars on Google Adwords and definitely seen the result of the traffic to my websites and increase in business.  Many REALTORS compete for search terms and pay Google lots of money in "pay per click" advertising.

Pay per click advertising has been Google's bread and butter.

Since I started actively blogging in March 2007 and on Active Rain since July 2007, I've been steadily and significantly decreasing my expenditures on Google Adwords as my organic search traffic has increased exponentially.  This has resulted in enormous savings and bottom line dollars in my pocket -- not in Google's.

Shhhhhh!  Don't tell them.

I want more Google Goodies!

Very nice.  I got a Google scarf one year and a google cooler bag another year.  But, I don't advertise with them anymore.  I believe I stopped the Google Adwords in early 1995.  Google AdWords was productive, but, as you said, it's $$$$$$$$$$.

Hi Brian - I have just started advertising with Google.  I haven't spent enough money for a cookbook.  That's one expensive cookbook.

Hi Brian

Nice stuff!

Google probably spends more on gifts in a year than most companies make in a year. At HomeGain we got a google refrigerator one year. Last year we received a very thougthful gift. About a dozen or so of us got $100 charity cards whereby we could give educational gifts (class trips, supplies etc) that school teachers in the bay area asked for outside of what their school district could pay.

Brian, wow I had no idea Google did that...but then again I don't manage my own campaign. Although I get clients from blogging, my PPC is at this point giving me the most leads.

Brian, what a great story on your organic search traffic building success, You look great in your apron. I hadn't heard Google doing this for individuals so it's nice to know for the top performers like yourself you are honored for your hard work.

Brian - looks like I quit adwords too soon, no apron for me.  I pretty much went cold turkey as soon as I started blogging.  So, do you cook?

I also never received an apron or cookbook after spending a bunch of money a few years back on Adwords.  If only I had continued....

Brian,

That is to funny.  Well I guess when you have spent as much as you have you deserve a little present for appreciation every now and again.  Hopefully the next present won't cost as much!
